BRUGES, BELGIUM - AUGUST 27: Rangers head coach Russell Martin during a post-match press conference following a UEFA Champions League Play-Off Round Second Leg between Club Brugge and Rangers at the Jan Breydel Stadium, on August 27, 2025, in Bruges, Belgium. The hate campaign against Russell Martin continued before and after the away match at Livingston.
Led by the Union Bears the standard was set during the home match with Hibs, despite winning 2-0 there was no deflection in the levels of personal abuse aimed at the current Ibrox boss.
As Martin delivered his team talk to the players before the match thousands were gathered outside the dressing room on Edmiston Drive shouting ‘Martin, Martin, get tae f**k’ and other chants including ‘Why don’t you go home’.
Generally Martin stays on message and smirks when he is questioned about his future and the abuse he is taking from supporters but the levels of attack are getting up close as well as personal.
Nothing more than he deserves and I wish he would “get tae fuck”. Apparently he’s got 3 games left to turn it around , It was 4 but genk beat us. Why is this clown getting so much fucking rope.

The team would have arrived at least an hour and half before the 3pm kick off, possibly as early as 1pm with the mood changing as soon as Martin stepped off for the short walk to the stadium door.
During the match there were regular bursts of ‘Martin, Martin, get tae f**k’,it was heard at its loudest soon after Max Aarons scored a stoppage time winner.
John Beaton decided to play eight minutes of stoppage time before returning to The Crown Bar in Bellshill.
At the final whistle Martin went straight down the tunnel, something that is becoming almost the norm in order to avoid any face to face confrontation from supporters.
Strangely there has been no comment from the club about the incredible levels of abuse that are being aimed at a high level employee.
Twice this year UEFA has punished the Ibrox club for the actions of their supporters but the club has refused to say anything or take actions over the highly personal levels of abuse that are becoming a normal part of the match-day experience.

In wee Scotland, what’s the difference between golf scoops and football scoops in our dreadful MSM ? Easy…the golf scoops correctly condemn and criticise the horrendous language and verbal abuse given to opposition teams and players at matches by US fans . While the football hacks don’t do likewise at games ! Criticism of bigotry and racist chanting especially …does not apply to our rubber eared scoops . It’s particularly disgraceful from the daily Record rag as it’s golf and football hack , is the same person …it’s pathetic really .
