GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 02: Celtic Chief Executive Officer Michael Nicholson (L) and Chief Financial Officer Christopher McKay during a UEFA Europa League 2025/26 League Phase MD2 match between Celtic and SC Braga at Celtic Park, on October 02, 2025, in Glasgow, Scotland. The panic inside the Celtic boardroom is being reflected in the treatment of supporters in the front section of the South Stand.
After being almost anonymous for the past four years Michael Nicholson and Chris McKay are finding themselves uncomfortably in the spotlight of fan anger.
Dermot Desmond and Peter Lawwell are used to being the targets of discontent but it is a brand new experience for CEO Nicholson and CFO McKay who are expected to have taken out the best part of £2m in wages and benefits for the year to 30 June 2025.
The South Stand doesn’t house the most aggressive or mouthy of Celtic fans but it seems that anyone criticising the Celtic board is likely to find themselves on the receiving end of heavy handed stewarding.
Such as the incident below.
This is how you’re treated for making your feelings known, boardroom to the pitch it is fucking soulless pic.twitter.com/qNIcEtSqIc

The clip above doesn’t show the incident in full but it is clear that the fan is walking away from the Directors Box when he is grabbed by the stewards.
Police Officers can certainly operate in that way, matchday stewards can use ‘reasonable force’ to eject fans which is very subjective, especially on a fan clearly walking away from whatever had happened. Training levels for stewards is a major concern.
Generally they are viewed as people to assist supporters, to diffuse and explain situations, when there is the threat of violence it should be passed to Police Officers.
Season Ticket holders paid £35 for last night’s match, non Season Ticket holders paid £45 for the 5.45 kick off. Next up in the Europa League is a home match against Sturm Graz on October 23.
Celtic are at home to Motherwell on Sunday with the atmosphere likely to be tense, the following day Nicholson and McKay will gold a face-to-face meeting the the Celtic Fans Collective.

Do the stewards have any authority to put their hands on you

I was also ejected by force for voicing my opinion

Happened on Saturday against Hibs, 2 supporters shout from below directors box, security beside board tell stewards below to move them, and then police involved . I’ve seen guys in rows in front of stewards been asked to leave seats and calm down

Disgusting
Why didn’t the rest of the supporters stand up and help this guy?
It’s an outrage, but the new Celtic FC ‘voice’ is going to ‘sit down with them’ on Monday.
FFS!!! We badly need a ‘voice’ but it needs to be the right one and sitting down with those tory scum should not be happening.
This is like the death throes of an administration – maybe not unlike Starmer’s? –
where everything the Board / club to do is wrong?
The board has acquired the ‘Sadim touch’, and don’t think these same people
have the ability [or even inclination] to turn things around?
The question is:
how long can they desperately hang onto their excessively, overcompensated roles…?
🙁
14 thousand empty seats …that’s the gubbins of £500,000 sovs in lost revenue …that’s just for entry fee too ! Add on merchandising and food and drink lost revenue and losing the match revenue money because of defeat ..it’s got to be inching towards the £ 1 Million pounds figure ? Still as long as ‘ the greys ‘ were having a good time laughing and smiling during defeat , then everything is fine and dandy Mandy ….intit ?
Imagine being so detested as ‘Daddy’ ‘Lucan’ and ‘Sly’ and staying put…
Might have something to do with the guts of £1.5 million in salary cash all the same !
Trump like behaviour by the board – no criticism allowed.
Why am I not surprised?
