Chris Sutton brilliantly calls out the Lennon and Boyd tag team

Chris Sutton has dubbed Neil Lennon and Kris Boyd as the Chuckle Brothers.

Ahead of Sky Sports coverage of the Hearts v Celtic match there was an incredible shouting match that left Eilidh Barbour, James McFadden and Ryan McGowan as by-standers.

The ‘discussion’ was over what was responsible for Celtic’s poor form and start to the season.

Sutton took the reasoned view that Brendan Rodgers was 20% responsible with the bulk of the blame lying with the board led by Michael Nicholson’s obsession with boosting the balance sheet at the expense of the team.

THE BLAME GAME

You would be hard pressed to Spot The Difference between Lennon and Boyd other than the agendas that they follow.

Boyd detests all things Celtic. He doesn’t have a reasoned thought in his head. No logic or train of thought. It is in his DNA to wish misery on Celtic.

Lennon’s motivation is more sinister.

Twice he has been promoted from caretaker to permanent manager of Celtic. Peter Lawwell made those decisions. The current Chairman brought Michael Nicholson to Celtic.

Away from Celtic Lennon hasn’t got near a managerial job of consequences.

LENNON’S RECORD

Since trashing Celtic’s hopes in the 20/21 season he has managed Omonia Nicolsia, Rapid Burcharest and Dundermline. In Cyprus he lasted 29 matches, in Romania 6 and so far 23 at Dunfermline.

No club in England has considered Lennon for a job since his spell at Bolton.

Clearly Lennon is angling for a return to Celtic and another huge pay day. Either let in the front door as caretaker manager, a route he knows well or as Director of Football to nurture a young mini-Lennon in the hot seat.

Sutton has a strong varied career as a pundit. He is independent, not trying to find a way into football management.

As a player Sutton’s comments were very much neutered with two exceptions. Now that the gloves are off he says it exactly as it is.

Across Twitter Sutton won the argument hands down.

Viewers can see through the agendas on show.

CREDIBILITY

Lennon’s credibility among Celtic fans is almost fully trashed. There won’t be much of a clamour for Q & A sessions. Especially alongside his mate Tam Cowan.

Clearly credibility isn’t an issue for Lennon, with Dunfermline sixth in the Championship it looks like a return to full time punditry isn’t far away.

Between offering his thoughts on TV on Celtic’s matches against Sturm Graz he led Dunfermline to degeat away to Ross County.

Next up for the Pars is Ayr United away and St Johnstone at home. He might just be about to return to the market at the same time as Celtic are looking for an interim/caretaker manager.
