The Daily Record is split between Steve Gerrard and Derek McInnes in their choice to take over from Russell Martin at Ibrox.
Record columnist Barry Ferguson is further out in the reckoning, what is clear is that Martin was sacked on Sunday night without a new management team on stand by to sweep into Murray Park.
Martin lasted 17 matches in charge before being hounded out by angry fans under the illusion that they support a world famous trophy winning machine, three successes in 12 years would suggest that they need to reset their ambitions.
The images of Martin getting a Police escort out of Falkirk then huckled into a car protected by Police horses is certain to put off many candidates that think it will be an easy fix to lift the club out of eighth place in the SPFL Premiership.
There has been no condemnation from the club over the treatment of their former manager, already this year the Union Bears have brought their club two sanctions from UEFA with suspended sentences over the closure of the Copland Stand and on away tickets
Covering the usual candidates the Record reports:
Steven Gerrard (4 out of 5)
A fans’ favourite and iconic figure at Ibrox after he delivered their 55th title in 2021 and stopped Celtic winning 10-in-a-row.
The Liverpool legend immediately ‘got it’ when he arrived in Glasgow seven years ago.
Derek McInnes (4 out of 5)
There’s an argument to say Rangers have missed a trick in the past by not appointing their former 9-in-a-row midfielder as gaffer.
Sean Dyche (3 out of 5)
The Englishman is the one guy on the list who has no previous experience of the Scottish game or Rangers.
But his no-nonsense, pragmatic style might be just what the club needs after Martin’s departure.
Barry Ferguson (2 out of 5)
If you’d said to Rangers fans a year ago that their former skipper would be a contender for the manager’s job they’d have scoffed at the idea.
But not now after his stint as caretaker boss last term.
Kevin Muscat (2 out of 5)
The Australian would probably be the most left-field appointment from the five main contenders but, crucially, he’s been a Rangers player before and won trophies at Ibrox so he knows the landscape and environment.
With three months to go until the transfer window opens and with Director of Football Kev Thelwell about to appoint his son Robbie (26) as Head of Recruitment only the desperate are likely to be seriously interested in replacing Martin.
Throw in the demands of a toxic support and any outsider is bound to be put off with Tory List MSP making it clear than no vegan’s, Buddhist’s or Green Party members should apply.
With no interim management team announced Woman’s Team boss Leean Crichton could be asked to oversee training for the non-internationalists alongside the leadership team of James Tavernier, Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell and John Souttar with three of those players out of contract at the end of this season.

Should the Celtic Fans Collective call for a full boycott of merchandise?
No, we must keep their income flowing
Yes, money is all that they understand
A Director appointing his son Head of Recruitment?
What could POSSIBLY go wrong?
Bwahahahahaha!
Listening to scb last night there was at least one decent sevco supporter who was aghast and ashamed of the so called fans carry on at falkirk and there were many more apologists on the show including the producer , we know who they are , in fairness to keevins he called it as it is , i’d love to see slippy back again though !!!
Will Slippy bring back the Brains behind his success? Now, that would be entertaining.?
Should that not be “Coupland Stand”, Joe?
I’m slightly surprised the suddenly-unemployed Potter isn’t quoted but I suspect after two consecutive failures in London he’d be about as appealing to the orcs as the second coming of Pedro Caixinha, plus they are unlikely to want to pay him a salary matching the severance he’ll be on from Chelski and West ‘Am, and he might not see Sevco as a great vehicle for a final chance at resurrecting a moribund career. They might well end up with another left-field fantasist like poor Pedro given how unappealing the post has become.
“…five victims.” hilarious.
Surely this has to be the last for a couple of years.
If they think that Gerrard is the answer to their prayers (oops) ‘ then they have not been paying the slightest bit of attention ! If they hope that he will come back to coach theRangers hoping to bring success on a shoestring budget after failing in the Middle East with their oil Billions , then they are consuming the WRONG Ayahuasca ! That stuff can cause a lot of discomfort and embarrassment…. I hope they were wearing tight ‘ pampers ? ‘
