Daily Record twists and stitches up Paul Lambert

Paul Lambert has been stitched up by the Daily Record over alleged criticism of Celtic supporters.

Mark Pirie is the author, putting his unique but predictable take on comments that Lambert made to a bookmaker.

Pirie is an ‘assistant live sports editor’ trawling online for any scraps that can be polished up to meet the expectations of Record readers.

Lambert gives little away in his comments other than the glaringly obvious that protests from supporters isn’t a healthy position to be in.

That won’t create many page views or sessions. Knowing what the declining army of readers are looking for he went with Lambert ‘ castigates protesting Celtic fans as ‘detrimental effect’.

Lambert DID say:

The players have to look at themselves as well, they’re not getting results at this moment in time. You can only hide behind transfers and things like that for long enough.

It’s very unlike the Celtic fans, I have to say, because they are really loyal to the club and the team.

But I think with what’s happening, the players are getting affected by it a little bit, but that shouldn’t really come into play. It should be about getting the job done and whatever happens off the field happens.

And that was it, fairly predictable, an observation from afar of a former Celtic skipper.

RECORD AGENDA

The current situation at Celtic is a god sent to the Record. It allows them to inch closer to refreshing their Celts in Crisis headline which is usually reserved for defeats in pre-season matches. The Celts in Liquidation graphics have yet to see the light of day.

And any excuse to put the boot into Celtic fans isn’t going to be missed.

With print sales now well below 40,000 a day the future of the Record is in the hands of live reporters like Pirie. At least he knows his market.

Most of today at the Record was spent applying top spin to the appointment of Danny Rohl at Ibrox.

Naturally he spoke very impressively, they all do.

Over the last week the Record has gone all in on the brilliance of Steven Gerrard then Kevin Muscat. Now they pretend that those two stories never existed.

The lust for clicks and an attention span of around 15 minutes might create some traffic. Unfortunately at the same time it destroys credibility, or what might have been left of it.
