ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND - OCTOBER 06: Dermot Desmond (L) and Thorbjorn Olesen of Denmark (R) with their trophies as they win the team event during the 2024 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship Final Day at the Old Course, on October 06, 2024, in St Andrews, Scotland. Dermot Desmond will be in Fife over the weekend as he takes part in the pro-am part of the Alfred Dunhill Cup.
It is a regular highlight in the diary of the wealthy Irish businessman who holds the largest individual shareholding in Celtic with 35% of the shares in the club. Since 2001 he has only missed the event once, over the last decade Desmond hasn’t made it to the Celtic AGM but his son Ross has attended in recent years.
Last weekend Desmond was spotted at the rowdy weekend of Ryder Cup action in New York with St Andrews and the pro-am much more low key.
Last year the Celtic shareholder won the competition playing alongside Thorbjorn Olesen from Denmark.

His defence starts early on Thursday with a 9.11am tee off on the Old Course playing with Rafa Cabrera-Bello.
That leaves plenty of time to get through to watch the Celtic v Braga Europa League tie which has a convenient kick-off time of 5.45.
On Friday Desmond moves up the east coast to Carnoustie where he has a 10.39 tee off time before switching to Kingsbarns on Saturday with an 11.23 tee off.
Sunday’s tee off time will be dependent on scoring over the first three days with the 20 leading partnerships playing for the trophy over the Old Course.
If Desmond misses out he will have the option to travel through to Glasgow to watch Celtic’s home match with Motherwell which kicks off at 3pm.
It looks like being a real family affair with tee off times also listing Dermot’s sons Dery, Brett and Ross Desmond as taking part.
The draw isn’t the easiest to navigate but the Alfred Dunhill Cup website and social media accounts will provide full coverage as Desmond looks to retain the trophy that he won last season.
Tickets for the event have to be bought in advance and cost just £21.20 per day which is less than half of the price for the Celtic v Braga match. CLICK HERE for ticketing details.
