McCoist demands the real answers to Gerrard snub

Ally McCoist isn’t convinced about the excuses given for Steven Gerrard rejecting the chance to return to Ibrox.

After three days of upbeat updates delivered by the legacy messengers there was a shock on Saturday night.

It isn’t often that Raman Bharwar is chosen for an exclusive. But at 8.18pm on Saturday the STV reporter destroyed the dreams of thousands of bears. No Stevie G!

From the joy of Russell Martin’s sacking, being spoon fed the good news about Gerrard to this.

Fans of every other club in Scotland were laughing at the Gullible & Deluded.

Over a couple of days their hopes had been built up. Jermaine Defoe teased on Instagram, the messengers even named Mister Gerrard’s backroom team. No Micky Beale as a bonus.

Behind the laughs and banter McCoist is hurting as much as any bear.

He might be England’s favourite pundit, favourite co-commentator but his superiority complex has taken a hammering.

The ways of the nineties and noughties were artificial. The result of financial doping. Kevin Kyle and Ian Black wouldn’t have got near a team-sheet under Smith or Advocaat. They did with McCoist.

Saturday’s rejection hit them hard. It might be a tipping point for some.

Listening to the cheeky chappy of TalkSPORT this morning the Daily Record reports the former Ibrox boss saying:

The Steven thing was a disappointment clearly, but it is an interesting one though.

I would interested to know what changed Steven’s mind or what didn’t convince him.

I said yesterday, family takes priority over everything, so I am thinking to myself ‘is it maybe a financial thing?’

But the more I think about it, if it was that, he wouldn’t have came for the interview in the first place would he? He would have just said it is impossible.

So either they haven’t sold him it, or I would suggest something has happened in the interview process that hasn’t taken his fancy.

Nothing about the timing excuse.

Last week they highlighted Danny Rohl as a candidate, that was mainly to give the impression that a process is involved in replacing Martin.

Now with Gerrard walking away some are taking the former Sheffield Wednesday boss as a serious candidate. The reaction online has been toxic, just short of Russell Martin levels.
