Kev Thelwell has delivered a feeble explanation for giving his lad a key job at Ibrox.

Daddy has made a horrific start to life at Ibrox, not content with that he has brought his  26-year-old son Robbie into the mayhem in a post and salary way above his ability and level of experience. Head of Recruitment!

Celtic fans may recognise some aspects of this shambles.

Kev was involved in sacking Russell Martin who was unable to get a tune out of last season’s leftovers and the dross brought in by ‘data’ during the summer transfer window.

TRANSFER TERRORS

Former Peterborough journeyman Manny Fernandez can’t make the matchday squad. He cost £3m.

Thelma Aasgaard, signed for £5m from Luton looks every inch a League One player.

Best of all is Youssel Chermiti, the non-scoring striker.

Thelwell Senior brought him to Everton in August 2023 in an £11m deal from Sporting Lisbon. He had three senior goals to his name.

Two years and no goals later Chermiti has joined Thelwell at Ibrox. Everton were delighted to salvage £9m from dead money.

Not content with that job lot, topped off by Martin during the summer, Kev has brought his lad Robbie in as Head of Recruitment.

Daddy was part of the Danny Rohl welcoming committee at Ibrox yesterday.

Surprisingly he was asked about bringing in Robbie, in reply he showed the trademark arrogance and contempt of those inside the football bubble to any sort of scrutiny.

BBC Scotland reported Dad saying:

It’s always uncomfortable to hear and optically I think we all agreed when we made this step to appoint Robbie that he was going to be seen in a particular way.

The reality of the situation is that we want to bring the very best talent here to Rangers.

My view on Robbie’s career and situation is he didn’t need my help in football.

He’s worked at Aston Villa as a senior scout, he then moved to Norwich City as head of scouting and then got promoted to player pathways manager.

Before we recruited him, two Premier League clubs wanted to take him. What we did right at the start of the process was talk to Patrick, Andrew and [vice-chairman] Paraag Marathe about this situation.

I was extremely transparent and I think Robbie probably went through a more rigorous process than anybody else who’s employed by this football club.

What I do know is that he will work 25/8 to be successful in this football club and I’m looking forward to him proving that he’s going to be an excellent employee for Rangers.

Robbie leaves Norwich sitting third bottom of the Championship with eight points from 11 matches.

At the start of the 24/25 season he was promoted to Loan Manager after a season as a scout. The same title as he had held at Aston Villa.

It is a stretch but a predictable claim that Dad brings up two Premier League clubs wanted to employ his boy.

His work at Norwich has either made no impact or is driving them towards relegation to League One.

Robbie started his career at the age of 17 as a scout at Wolves. At that time Daddy had just been promoted to Sporting Director from the Head of Academy.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Slagging off their hitherto unimpressive signings when we play them in less than a fortnight, and look like we couldn’t score in a brothel, is what’s known as ‘tempting fate’ and best avoided. It’s a surefire way of turning them into 90 minute world beaters.

How many people out there have got members of their family a job in the same place as themselves??
If you’re more interested in a football club than your own family then I think it’s you who have the problem. Doesn’t matter what line of business. Look after your own.

We can only pray that Sonny Thelwell is as abject as Sonny Lawwell was !

This Chermeti dude. Is he getting the Idah & Engels treatment from the media? I don’t touch mainstream media but I know the Videocelts team unfortunately have to read that dross. So pray tell.

Editor: One for the future, showing in flashes what he can do. To be fair the campaign against Engels, Idah and Trusty was orchestrated by a network of Celtic dependent messengers.
