Celtic fans will have to dig very deep in they want to buy into the SPZL range being launched by Adidas.
With supporter relations at breaking point now might not be the best time to launch a £230 smock.
SPZL is already an established brand, the Adidas only Smoch retails at £230, it is likely to cost more to add Celtic branding.
Other items in the range include Suddell tracksuit bottoms at £110, a crew sweatshirt at £110 and a cap at a bargain £35. For just £255 you can look like a stylish advert for Adidas. Or at a price tag of £485 you can add in the smock
Celtic, Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest will all be launching the SPZ range on Thursday. The Adidas team will closely be monitoring sales and social media reaction.
During the summer the frustrations of the Celtic support started to boil over as the club stalled on signing players.
There was no let up in the releases from Adidas. There were three first team strips plus a variety of other items and accessories. All aimed directly at the fans bank accounts.
SUPPORTER UNREST
Over one weekend at the start of September the level of discontent between the support and the club went truly off the radar.
On the fifth senior figures undermined Brendan Rodgers to a friend of Roger Hannah with wholly unfounded allegations.
That was followed by an incredible 1030 word club statement that blamed everyone and anyone except the club for their transfer failings.
Those events saw fans looking for an outlet for their anger and to protest. The previous week led by the Green Brigade over 100 supporter groups backed an Open Letter questioning the running of the club through seven questions.
Following the story in The Sun and the club statement over 400 groups signed up, soon after the Celtic Fans Collective was formed.
It has been rumoured that Celtic’s retail sales fell by 50% during September. That has been without any calls for a boycott, fans have been sickened by the actions of Michael Nicholson and the excuses trotted out.
Following tomorrow’s SPZL launch the Collective will host their second meeting as fans look to formalise plans for change. A merchandise boycott seems an obvious soft target to reduce income and send a warning message.
They will get a good idea of the appetite for a merchandise boycott when the SPZL range is launched. It is likely to be an uncomfortable day for Kevin McQuillan, Celtic’s Head of Marketing and Club Media.
The SPZL range was trailed at the recent home match against Motherwell. There has been no official follow up from Celtic but Adidas will expect the full works tomorrow.
Nicholson will get a good idea of his standing through the reactions if he switches on to Twitter/X in the morning.
NOTE: I’m looking for a Dundee ticket for my nephew- if you have a spare please email videocelts@snack-media.com

Thats just off the charts mental.
Price them at 60-75 and they shift barrowloads.
Just where is the 230 in that to merit buying it other than the branding?
Its something that not long ago my mrs wuda said lets get that for xmas for the grandson…..but their takin the piss.
And under current circumstances no merch will be getting purchased this year.
If the fans have any brains at all they will boycott all this over priced ,over hyped tat from Adidas, how can a pair of jiggy bottoms cost £110 they’re probably made in the far east for a fiver, stick an Adidas label on and hey presto 110,If the sales of this gear don’t take off Adidas will notice and bring it to the attention of the board who will have to explain why the faithful have boycotted buying merchandise.adidas will make the board sit up and take notice of the fans displeasure.
Would not be seen dead in that thing seriously! An insult to all mods everywhere
Well said Eldraco, as a mod for 50 years I totally agree HH
You can fool all of the mugs all of the time.
Blindly following something leads to disaster.
“…It has been rumoured that Celtic’s retail sales fell by 50% during September. That has been without any calls for a boycott…”
If that % drop is anywhere near the actual %,
then our ‘world class’ Board has to take corrective action.
[In a ‘world class’ operation, corrective action would have been taken during September,
but that’s stating the obvious.]
The numbers don’t lie: the ball is at Nicholson’s feet…
I bid £70 for the smock and I don’t want to pay VAT.
Daylight Robbery of the highest order !
