Ally McCoist has laughed off rejection of Steven Gerrard with his trademark sense of humour.

Every change of management and regime has been given the full backing of the club’s first ever manager. Taking the bold steps with Mike Ashley and Charles Green in 2012 in return for a batch of penny shares asthe club was launched.

Last week the jokes were flying after Russell Martin was chased out of the Falkirk Stadium.

Anticipation went through the roof when the messengers were informed that Gerrard was involved in talks.

The excitement was brewing into the weekend. And then Raman Bhardwar broke the bad news with a tweet at 8.18pm on Saturday.

How could the club do that?

Haven’t the bears suffered enough?

There was outrage online on Saturday night. A fresh chapter in the Banter Years was launched.

Rage was off the radar. It was a great distraction from the troubles at Celtic. Michael Nicholson must have wished that the Gerrard news had broke at the same time as the Minutes of the meeting with the Collective were published.

The Daily Record was tuned into TalkSPORT this morning where McCoist was sharing wacky banter, at least 24 hours late:

Do you know something? My mate phoned me on Saturday and he said: ‘Rangers aren’t even playing and they’re still spoiling my Saturday!’

I think Stevie Gerrard pulled out at about 7 o’clock, out of the manager’s race for the position.

I said I fancied it to be his if he wanted it and he could get some arrangements and things like that, obviously.

He had one or two things to iron out but sadly, that wasn’t the case. And that was it, we’re still on the hunt.

It looks likely to be Danny Rohl but there’s one or two other boys. Michael Carrick’s come into the frame.

Celtic have spoiled almost every day of McCoist’s life since 2012.

In December 2014 the two Glasgow clubs were drawn to play against each other in the semi final of the League Cup.

Bring it on the Ibrox boss roared after the draw was made.

MCCOIST WALKED AWAY

Two weeks later he bolted onto gardening leave with Kenny McDowall left with the duds collected over three years for the match at Hampden.

Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons scored first half goals for Celtic in a fixture best remembered for the game management of referee Craig Thompson on a horrific surface.

If Derek McInnes and Barry Ferguson knock the job back there is one obvious candidate to turn to.

He appears on TalkSPORT, Amazon, ITV and TNT Sports. A natural leader, a unifying figure, exactly what the club needs.

If the cash is right McCoist could be back in the dug-out to face Dundee United on Saturday.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.
