Russell Martin has performed a sharp u-turn on the mentality of his Ibrox flops.

Four times during his post match interview on TNT Sport on Thursday night he blamed the defeat to Sturm Graz on the mentality of his players.

To most people when you question mentality it is doubting the character of people when they are faced with difficult circumstances, adversity.

Such as when you have a man sent off in the early minutes away to Club Brugge and end up trailing 5-0 at half time after a 3-1 defeat in the first leg of the tie.

A bad mentality is when you are at a club for 10 years, constantly go on about needing a winning mentality and have just three winners medals to show for your service.

It seems that the rest of the world has picked up the wrong definition of the word mentality, according to mini Pep mentality is actually just about switching off at set-pieces!

It depends on ‘ow you define language. I meant ‘ow we defend when the ball goes dead, we got ‘urt from a frow-in which was ours and a set piece. They ‘ad two more chances, one from a frow-in, one from theirs, one from ours (smirks cos he is super intelligent).

We need to be a bit more alive, a bit more alert. The mentality of the players has been great in terms of their spirit and togetherness, ‘ow much that ‘as improved over the last few weeks, you saw that even in the game, we were desperately trying to win, get back in the game not just to draw, on another day we score a few more goals I fink.

Not in terms of the mentality of the group as a whole, just in them moments and ultimately it is my responsibility to make sure that we are there all the time, we’ve improved so much in that aspect of the game recently.

Gordon Duncan opted not to challenge Martin’s bizarre definition of mentality.

Martin mentioned how he wasn’t impressed by the way two angry bears had approached Paddy Stewart and Kev Thelwell in a hotel foyer and that his players had been an hour late for bed after the match.

It is incredible how he gets away with constantly changing his opinion, when the team wins it is down to his tactics and organisation but defeats are on the players or the problems of the past.

With each passing match and media appearance the anger of the fans grows stronger, the majority detested him before he got the job based on his lifestyle choices and beliefs.

It seems fairly obvious that nothing is going to force Martin into resigning which means that only a massive pay off will pave the way for a more culturally aligned manager such as Neil Warnock or David Martindale being appointed.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Depends on how you define language? It’s nothing to do with language, we all know what mentality means, the Oxford dictionary defines it. They have always had a mentality issue, ever since their constituent parts climbed out the corporate abortion bin.

Their only league title came when Lenny and LawWell had a bigger mentality issue and the derangers fans were not allowed in.

For a man that supposedly meditates, you would think he would know the difference between mentality and concentration.

He sounds like every clown who climbed the marble stairs before him, out of their depth, out of touch with reality and out of time.

Couldn’t have been any other offers of work for RM cos only a sadomasochist (or would that be a saddo-masochist ) would think Sevco looked like solid opportunity.
Anyone had a look at the phone book to see who comes after Martin.Russell?
    They must be shitin themselves.

    Off topic but…

First of all I can’t stand Neil Lennon simply because, for Celtic’s sake, he should have resigned and giving us a better chance of winning TIAR which was a bigger deal than the media makes out. I know the the board’s fault, the showers, the horror. the bullets etc.

His reward for losing is to have the media plaster his face all over our screens and to be regarded as an expert in all things Celtic and football in general. He is an Irish “Uncle Tom” who is as repulsive as McCoist himself.

However here is the thing and you can probably guess why NL came to mind. I think Jimmy Thelin should resign from Aberdeen immediately and give them, and whoever comes in, a fighting chance of avoiding relegation which is a bit like drain circling which brings its own unique pressure.

We need Aberdeen in the SPL as the fans hate Sevco more than we do.

My solution? Aberdeen should sign Lennon as I think it would give the team and the fans a boost, even after all I have said. It just feels right and the feel good factor only needs to last the rest of the season to escape the fall.

    I know talking about mental…

Editor: I don’t think Aberdeen will be contacting you to head up their next head hunting exercise, there are reasons Lennon has only worked in Cyprus briefly, Romania briefly and Dunfermline post Celtic II.

Ok in that case Celtic might want me as a CEO!

It just shows how ridiculous Scottish media are when NL and McCoist are experts after their attempts at managing.

I was just going for shock value to gee them out of complacency. They need something and right away. I don’t want to see them going down.

Editor: Who cares what the Record, BBC or Herald has to say on anything, be as well quoting Iron Chancellor Gordon Brown for his thoughts on the economy #pointless
