Frank McAvennie is on his way to Santa Ponsa next week. Appearing at Brennan’s Sports Bar on October 22 and 23.
It isn’t far off 40 years since the striker popped in two goals against Dundee United to clinch the Centenary Double. However as Billy McNeill said at the time those players will be remembered forever.
Alongside Andy Walker, Mark McGhee and Joe Miller the former West Ham striker formed a devastating strike force that swept the hoops to glory in a season full of memories.
HEART OF SANTA PONSA
Two generations down the line McAvennie will be sharing some of his memories with holiday-makers in the Celtic friendly resort.
Brennan’s is right in the centre of Santa Ponsa. Some might describe it as the heart of the resort with music from 7pm onwards all through the season.
The boss Michelle looks after customers at Brennan’s as if they are family. Nothing is too much of an effort as she serves drinks, clears the tables, catches up with regulars and makes sure that everything runs smoothly alongside her enthusiastic staff.
Three different acts are on each night with Fergal McCahey and Pastor John the regulars. Other acts flown in for a week at a time.
He’ll be in Brennan’s the previous night as well, doing all sorts, as he does.
Just a few minutes along the road from Brennan’s is the famous Dubliner, another home from home for the thousands of Celtic fans that visit every summer.
CELTIC FAN FRIENDLY
Mairtin O’hUigin and Darrin Cahill are about to complete a marathon seven month stint at the Dubliner. Over the closing down party weekend of October 18-20 they’ll be backed up by a few of the acts that have joined them through the season.
Gary Og and Una Dunne will also be on stage while Chris from Erin Go Bragh will be playing late into the night. Alas the fun has to end but plans are already well underway for the 2026 season. They Never Stop.
Down at The Square the big screen has shared some late drama in recent weeks. Kelechi Iheanacho’s penalty at Kilmarnock and Daizen Maeda’s header against Motherwell brought late joy to the holiday-makes.
After a five month stint at Celts Well Karl Byrne will be back for the weekend of October 26, 27 and 28. Delivering Celtic tunes, Irish classics and raw banter in a way that only he can get away with.
