St Mirren have edged through the 10,000 mark as they sell tickets for the League Cup Final against Celtic.

The Paisley side were initially given an allocation of 9,500 with the possibility of increasing that up to 17,000.

Season Ticket holders were given first shout on the tickets- being allowed to buy 20 digital tickets for family and friends.

Many Season Ticket holders grouped up to sit together at Hampden.

On Wednesday the offer of tickets was extended to anyone that had bought a ticket from St Mirren in the last four years.

That step pushed the sales total above 10,000.

It seems unlikely that St Mirren can conjure up more than another 2,000 sales for the match at Hampden.

Next week the SPFL will make the decision on how many of the ‘St Mirren allocation’ is given to Celtic supporters.

TICKET SPLIT

Segregation will be put in place somewhere in the West Stand as the Celtic support encroaches into the area behind the goal. Celtic fans have already been allocated the North and East Stands with the South Stand split between both clubs.

It looks like Celtic will have close to 40,000 fans looking to lift the first trophy of the season.

A year ago Celtic lifted the trophy in dramatic fashion with Daizen Maeda scoring the vital penalty to sink Phil Clement’s side after a 3-3 draw.

Celtic went to Hampden last season with a comfortable lead in the SPFL alongside nine Champions League points from six matches.

The situation this season looks very different. Celtic are trailing and behind expectations in the SPFL and Europa League.

Celtic go to Hampden on the back of home matches against Hearts and Roma. Winning at home to Hearts will be vital while the match against Roma could be almost meaningless if Celtic don’t get a win away to Feyenoord next week.

On Saturday the cup finalists meet in the SPFL Premiership, With the match on Sky Sports there are likely to be plenty of empty seats in the three stands occupied by home supporters.
