The North Curve has published a detailed reaction to the Celtic Fan Survey.

After sitting on the survey for 15 months the club was forced into publishing the results on the back of pressure from the Celtic Fans Collective.

COLLECTIVE MOMENTUM

The newly formed fan group has set the pace all season. Forcing corporate Celtic out of their comfort zone into a number of uncomfortable decisions.

Almost overlooked is the actual results of the survey.

Supporters have voted overwhelmingly for increased standing. Real supporters, Season Ticket holders.

Perhaps surprisingly, based on online claims, 59% of Season Ticket holders are prepared to be relocated to accommodate a new standing section.

SEASON TICKETS

A huge number of Season Ticket holders have been in the same seat for 15 years. Some for almost 30 years.

Naturally there is an attachment to that seat, the area but there is a bigger picture. A new look standing section in the Jock Stein Stand comes with multiple benefits.

In terms of safety it eases the pressure with the current section regularly overcrowded.

A bank of noisy ultras led fans behind the goal Celtic normally play to in the second half will give the team a boost. Similar to Liverpool or Borussia Dortmund is the aim. Or better.

Vacating the current corner of the stadium would give the club the opportunity to do more with the Lisbon Lions Stand.

In February 2023, ‘The Celtic End’ was launched to propose the idea of turning the Jock Stein Lower Stand into a standing section.

For some time, it has been obvious to most fans that Celtic Park needs an increased standing section to improve supporter experience, enhance the matchday atmosphere and mitigate health and safety concerns caused by insufficient standing capacity.

With the long awaited release of the Celtic FC Fan Survey, we are delighted that at least 60% of match going fans have validated our calls.

Broken down further, a 52% majority of Season Ticket holders expressed interest in being part of a standing section and 59% indicated that they would be open to either being moved to facilitate a standing section or remain in place as part of one.

Broken down per stand, only the Main Stand returned a majority ‘No’ for interest in moving to a standing section.

This presents a clear mandate for an increased standing section and we welcome the fact that the club has stated twice that work is underway in respect of this.

In conjunction with the commitment to improve supporter engagement processes (also reflected in the Fan Survey), it is imperative that supporters play a meaningful role in exploring and implementing a new standing section.

We would ask that the club be more transparent around what work has already taken place and commit to including supporters as part of the full process as soon as possible, and not used merely to form a consultation.

Over to you Michael, put away the Post It and start earning your salary and pension contributions.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

No-one so far appears to have commented on the fact that many supporters are hostile towards the Green Brigade, although to be fair the report didn’t draw much attention to that. It’s time that the board (a new board?) stood up to them and exiled them permanently. The GB is a selfish, self-serving entity that exists for its own ends: it has infiltrated Celtic, and it shouldn’t be indulged any longer.

Editor: Have things gone quiet over at CQN since the Monday night celebrations?

“…the fact that many supporters are hostile towards the Green Brigade…

      It’s time that the board…exiled them permanently…”

Can you please quantify your quoted fact: how many supporters, exactly?

Is it just you who wants them exiled permanently? Or, how many supporters agree with you?

We all have our different opinions – but making sweeping statements is both unhelpful and disingenuous.

Moreus, your final paragraph (sans the GB bit) would be a reasonable description of Desmond and the board. Thanks for that! 🙂

      Aye, nae bother, Dermot.

  • The Cha says:

No, many fans are not hostile towards to the GB or any other fan grouping.

The GB and the majority of fans are altruistic and have many times helped others both inside and outside the fan base, sometimes coming at a high personal cost.

Of course, there are Board stupid elements that decry the solidarity of Celtic fans but you never see or hear them at Celtic Park, only when they’re doing their Abe Simpson impressions on the Internet.

I’m really glad the opening comment has been challenged and effectively put in its place as it’s an opinion by one individual implying it’s a widely held view whilst being totally unsubstantiated. I agree with the other commenters. As pointed out we’re a very diverse bunch, us Celtic supporters, with most of us having a social conscience and well capable of speaking for ourselves. Get behind the new CFC as it’s been needed for decades IMHO and has the potential to change Celtic for GOOD, i.e. both meanings, to improve the club and permanently and without greedy leeches running things.
Welcome to Video Celts, Cha! HH.

I’m afraid I’m one of the 40% who do not want the ultras behind the goal. My reasons are simple, I’ve been in my seat since that stand opened and stood in the position long before that. I sat on a barrier there as a kid, If the ultras promise to keep the flags down when the ball is in play fair enough, I’ll accept that, if not they can fuck off, I’m too old the stand and I’ve been behind the goal for over 65years apart from when the new stadium was being built when I was in the North Stand. I was even in the behind the goal at the Celtic end when we played out of Hampden. I’ve not got long left so want to end my time at Celtic part as I started it before any of the ultras and most of the dads were born.

A long journey perhaps. But please could we go back to the days when you just turned up and paid in to the game. It worked fine at Parkhead for many years!
