Celtic TV has highlighted the goals and celebrations from the win over Feyenoord.
After losing 3-0 away to Midtjylland on Matchday 4 expectations were low going into the match in Rotterdam.
OMINOUS BUILD UP
Saturday’s 1-0 win away to St Mirren cast more doubts over how prepared Celtic were for European football. After six games the hoops only had a 2-1 win over Sturm Graz to their credit.
Martin O’Neill made three changes from Paisley on Saturday but a completely different mindset and approach left Feyenoord chasing shadows for most of the night.
When the Dutch side went in front in the 11th minute things looked ominous. It could have been a continuation of Midtjylland.
From somewhere Celtic dug deep to produce their best performance of the season.
There was nothing fortunate about the result, the scoreline reflected a mature performance where all parts of the team did their job.
BACK WITH A BANG
Luke McCowan and Reo Hatate combined brilliantly to create the equaliser. The finish from Yang Hyun-jun was exceptional. Under pressure he showed composure to side foot the ball into the net.
Celtic’s second, just before half-time looked like vintage Ange Postecoglou. Daizen Maeda pressured the Feyenoord ‘keeper into a rushed clearance, 22 yards from goal Hatate made no mistake as he slammed the ball into the empty net.
There was lots to like about the third goal, especially if you are Colby Donovan.
In his first Celtic minutes under O’Neill he took a throw-in, hit the bye-line and cut the ball back to Maeda. He cushioned the ball into the path of Ben Nygren who found the roof of the net from 10 yards out.
Celtic saw out the rest of the match without any real scares.
It looks like there is something to build on but a win away to Hibs on Sunday is essential to keep momentum flowing.
