Celtic’s Monday ‘first team update’ didn’t mention the two most important words. Wilfried, Nancy.

Three weeks after Brendan Rodgers resigned there is no sign of a replacement being installed.

Three quarters of the way through the international break Celtic remain manager-less.

THE WASTED OPPORTUNITY

On Thursday the full Celtic squad will be back in training at Lennoxtown.

After announcing Martin O’Neill an interim manager on October 27 that message was repeated on November 17.

There is rarely clarity in Celtic’s communications. Supporters are left to form their own conclusions.

On Facebook the Parkhead Faithful group were quick off the mark. They claimed that Celtic had ended their interest in Nancy.

The full picture is unlikely to emerge. Vested interests will put out their take of events. The truth will remain evasive.

On the back of the Celtic statement the claims from The Parkhead Faithful group on Facebook gained a lot of traction.

What happened to Celtic's deal for Wilfried Nancy?

Celtic’s update, they prefer them to statements, leaves the way clear for more speculation.

A CEO- LEADERSHIP AND DECISION MAKING

Nothing is likely to come out of the club until Friday when they hold their 2025 AGM.

Michael Nicholson can offer his version of events, if questioned his shoulders might get twitchy.

O’Neill will give his take of events in media conferences on Friday, a longer term gig now seems a certainty.

After failing to appoint a manager during the international break it seems highly unlikely that someone will now be appointed.

From now until February time on the training ground will consistent of loosening up sessions.

Celtic play every third or fourth day for the next 12 weeks.

With a weakened squad hammered by injuries the next few months are about man management rather than imposing a new style of play on a squad that has already had two managers so far this season.

Since the Celtic Fans Collective came into place it seems that their worst fears- and more- are being played out by a CEO, Chairman and Board of Directors that has had all their shortcomings exposed and magnified.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

This is getting a touch of the Eddie Howe’s about it now…….

  • paddybhoy67 says:

Regardless of who blinked – the board has shown once again to be unfit to manage an institution like Celtic. Amateurish, ill-prepared dancing to the tune of a narcissist, they are a mockery of what a dynamic, forward thinking ‘world class’ organisation should look like.

  • Pedro says:

Dodged a bullet here methinks….might be the smartest decision the board (despite their ‘European ambition’ tripe) have made- keep O’Neil as interim, he has our tails up, let’s not lose momentum when Hearts are crapping themselves and the Sons of Satan have the refs on their side…

  • James Ward says:

I still think we will downgrade in the managerial swoop for a manager. I would not be surprised if Steve Clarke ended up our manager especially as I don’t see them qualifying for the WC.

  • Wee Jock says:

Personally I think they’ll stick with MON and Maloney until season ends. Please not Steve Clarke, that’s boycott territory.

    • Pan says:

That would make some sense! Definitely NOT Clarke, but I don’t think McKenna et al will touch Celtic with a barge pole. They know what the Board is like and that we do not have proper European ambition.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I don’t particularly like Steve Clarke’s style of footy either Wee Jock…

But he’s been the most successful Scotland manager for 30 bloody years…

    Will that continue tonight…

Still think there’s better out there somewhere though…

It’s just can The Grey Laggers find it !

Wilfried Who? I heard that they were after an Italian!
A good Italian manager would be the complete package, if you get one who can operate here and he knows his stuff. It would be a wise investment!
I think the Board gave Rodgers a fair crack of the whip. They were willing to back him in Europe and they did. But to get a manager off the shelf at this time, or at any time must be difficult, you would have to have some luck with availability!

  • Eldraco says:

Like john my only thought on nancey was europe but given we look longer odds to qualify for cl next year i gave it a pass. Unless that board are dismantling themselves piecemeal then i give the report credence but…

Its a tough one nancey has the foitball for Europe does celtic have the players? Thats really the crux of the matter. Ask me after three windows and if he gets the job, moot if he doesnt.

And back to watching paint dry as the debacle continues.

  • Thomas Boyle says:

MN: We did everything we could, we just couldn’t get the deal done and as we turned our attentions to another target, Martin assured us that he thought our best man was here all along. So in proud Celtic tradition I would like to announce Sean Maloney as our new head coach after he shook hands on the deal with the chairman at the adjacent urinal in the home team dressing room.

You know its coming, these suits are going to screw the club again on the cheap and dressed up as Martin ONeils advice.
