Moving on from their enemies inside the SFA the anger of the Ibrox support has turned to Youssef Chermiti.

The former Everton striker has scored two goals in the last three years. One against Gibraltar u-21s and the other against Kilmarnock.

THELWELL CONNECTION

That goal against Stuart Kettklewell’s side, and the celebration, seems to have upset a large number of Ibrox fans.

Especially those that have been chanting and protesting against Kevin Thelwell.

The current Ibrox Director of Football has been at the heart of the £20m of transfers that Chermiti has been involved.

Signing him for Everton in November 2023 then taking him to Ibrox during the summer transfer window. Clearly Thelwell is a big fan of the two goal striker.

At Ibrox there are less admirers as one tweet highlighted. Gordon Smith and Barry Ferguson are in the news today slaughtering the £8m flop.

The Sun reports Smith saying:

I was shocked by the signing. I’ll be honest, and I’ve done scouting courses, one of the factors you’re looking at in a striker is goals scored.

I wouldn’t have brought him in on a free transfer, never mind paid money for him, on his stats.

I couldn’t understand why they would possibly be interested in him.

He might come good eventually, who knows? but at that level, Chermiti was never worth it. That valuation was out of order.

Ibrox ambassador Ferguson told the Daily Record:

He didn’t ask Rangers to spend somewhere between £8million and £10m to get him out of Everton in the summer. But he’s the guy who gets it in the neck for the size of the transfer fee on his back.

It’s playing on his mind. I could see it at the weekend just as I’ve seen it in some of his previous performances. At times, he looks like he’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders. At others, almost as if he’s trying too hard!

Chermiti is the summer signing causing most concern at Ibrox. Most fans reckon that he is a massive downgrade on the detested Cyriel Dessers.

SUMMER TRANSFER BLUNDERS

At the time it was reported as an £8m signing with add-ons likely to take it to £10m. Naturally the add-ons are unknown.

There are plenty of other targets for the angry bears to shout about. Defender Manny Fernandez cost £3.5m from Peterborough, he has barely played in a defence leaking goals.

Relegated Luton were paid £5m for Thelo Aasgaard who looks on a par with Connor Barron.

The loan players wouldn’t be missed if recalled in January but the big fear for bears is allowing Thelwell to spend again in January.

And you’ve got Danilo and his Da on the payroll until May 2028.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Love how wee Barry starts off sympathetic and supportive, then comes the whiplash moment….

“I’ve genuinely never saw a striker with less talent. And I have seen some absolute duds in the last 13 years, so that’s really saying something.”

    Brutal!!

Big Smudger ‘ the syrup ‘ Smith getting a nice few quid for Christmas presents courtesy of the SMSM for giving his ‘ expert ‘opinion about Chermiti being a dud for theRangers ! Now if only one of those tabloids had the brains to have had a sit-down with big Go- Go about his time as Chief Executive of the SFA during the EBT years in Ibroxland, he could have had his next 20 Christmas presents all paid for by his asking fee for the privilege ? Of course he still to this day denies knowing a single thing of what went down during the EBT / side letter elaborate productions whilst being the top kiddy in Scottish football at that time …..a ‘ duped ‘ kind of thingamabob !

Ex-Rangers director, Gordon “I know nothing about anything” Smith said:

“…I’ve done scouting courses, one of the factors you’re looking at in a striker is goals scored…”

Can’t argue with that pearl of wisdom – and he’s been on a course as well. 🙂

sevco is like a broken record with the deflection / circle the wagons as nobody likes us.

You beat me to it, Bob (original). Gordon Smith should have gone on a media course and left out the scouting course. So one of the things you should be looking for in a striker is goals. Who’d a thunk it!
He should ask the organisers of the course for his money back.

“I Couldn’t Understand Why They Would Possibly Be Interested In Him.”
    If
    “They”
knew nothing at all about football, it would make perfect sense!
As to SFA Coaching courses. I started one at basic level when I briefly took a boys football team. I went for ther first one or two sessions and I didn’t go back.
The set up was fine, the coaches, facilities etc. But what they were trying to teach you was peurile, to be honest. It was as if somebody who knew nothing about football was tring to coach you on how to play the game.
Their approach seemed to be to coach the natural ability you had out of you and then install thier useless notions on how to play!
“This Is How To ‘Trap And Pass’. Take another Touch – And Pass.” Then you practised it. And so on! A waste of time!
All the Coaches in Scottish Football though, have to have their
    “Badges”
to work in Scottish Football, at all levels.
That is what I feel was wrong with the Coaching methods at Celtic under Brendan Rodgers. The players were not being allowed to be themselves, to express themselves and their abilities naturally. They had to follow rigid coaching methods as set out by the coaches who were teaching playing methods devised by
    “Suits”
at the SFA who couldnae kick a ba’ themselves!
Tey get their day in, but Scottish football is becoming a monster of their own making.
