Graeme Souness has put the boot into issues at Ibrox.
The former Liverpool captain has been angling for an Ibrox job for a number of years with his status elevated following the death of Walter Smith.
Souness now has the mantle of being the wise old owl over Ibrox with his views revered despite spending less than four years as player manager of Rangers.
In 2023 Souness was involved in the recruitment of Micky Beale’s successor. Frank Lampard was his nomination but the club opted for Phil Clement.
With Russell Martin sacked Kev Thelwell and Paddy Stewart are the new hate figures with an emphasis on Director of Football Thelwell.
The former Everton scout is believed to have been the driving force behind the disastrous summer signings.
The club has claimed that there was a net summer spend of £20m to create a weaker squad.
That has angered supporters, even more so with Thelwell’s 26-year-old son Robbie recently appointed as Head of Recruitment.
Asked if Thelwell should be in charge of January recruitment the Daily Record reports Souness saying:
I don’t think so. Unless there is something in these players he’s brought in that I’m not seeing. Some of them are just not good enough.
All boards of directors look to find young players, pay little money for them, coach them up and make them better and then sell them on for enormous profits – that would appear to be the Rangers business model but I don’t see that happening with the players they’ve signed.
Would you trust Kevin Thelwell with another chunk of money? I don’t know if Rangers have another chunk of money to go again in the new year.
TRANSFER DISTRESS
With the transfer window opening in less than two months the Gullible & Deluded are expecting another spending spree.
But trusting Thelwell with it is causing distress for the 36th best team in the Europa League.
Youssef Chemiti was the biggest summer signing with Thewell agreeing an £8m deal with Everton for the striker.
Bringing in players from England seemed the target with £8m spent on Manny Fernandez and Thelo Aasgaard,
In defence no-one is signed up beyond the end of this season with James Tavernier and John Souttar joined by three loan signings.
With gates down and Europa League prize money crashing there is little to suggest that Thelwell will be spending in January.
And hopes of a Scottish record fee for Nicky Raskin are reducing game by game.

Oh look who it is ,Yosser Hughes, geeze a job, ah can do that, aka SOURNESS THE PONCE.
Had a quick gander on the daily sevco website there, just for a laugh and I wasn’t disappointed.
A thought it was an episode of Big Brorher or an update on the shutdown in America,11 days later and the klan klub are still screaming blue murder,no joke intended, but they are still hunting down Wullie Collum.
Souness, FFS? A bitter and twisted auld man.
A talented dirty bastard in his playing days.
An EBT recipient attached to a transfer from the original huns to Newcastle. (Baumsong)
A decrepit, bitter, orange bastard now, seeking employment.
Hell mend him, scumbag!
And if the new huns’ fans fall for his ‘charm’, the banter years will go on forever.
At least until the new huns join the original huns in the sewers where they all belong.
PEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNNNNNNNNNNNISSSSSSSSSSSSSS….
We beat the Penis at Parkhead v Blackburn Rovers and I was there…
A magical night and that was because we beat him !
Aye, Clach, happy days.
It was Souness’ “men against boys” after losing 1-0 at CP and expecting to go through at Ewood Park that I loved. The SMSM were fukkin praying he was right and backed him to the hilt in print. BUT, our Bhoys went tae Blackburn and beat them 2-0 and it was just another GIRUY from us to huns in the media and huns wherever else they infect.
Happy days indeed! We also beat Liverpool that year and but for RD we’d have won the Europa Cup.
Another Nepo Boy at Diebrox?
Worked well at Celtic……… didn’t it?
Quite ungrateful comments from, I assume Celtic Supporters, who to me should be more grateful to a horrible, bigoted excellent player and blatantly cowardly thug who killed Rangers 1872. It was his dodgy backhanders full transfer of Jean Alain Bum Song to the Geordies for an astonishing £6m which brought down Rangers 1872. He should get the credit he deserves from both sides of the old “Old Firm” After all, it was him who killed the “Old Firm” ???
Of course that has always been the
“Rangers Business Model”
Why wouldn’t it be? Easy as pie!
Just buy in a bunch of boys, add value to them and sell them on for millions and millions.
Er … just trying to think of some, … er, … one even that Rangers developed and sold on for millions, …, eh The big guy with the curls, Davie Weir’s team was it?, eh … left back he was, … eh … Bassey!
£18M. Big success as well!
Two seasons ago E 16M out E 12M in. Last season E 16.5M out E 2.8M in. This season (so far) out E 29M in E 26M.(All millions of Euros of course).
Last three seasons: Net In E41M Net out E 64M.
As I say, all the big clubs do it!
Take it down with ye when ye go ya Big Mutt!
Take it down with you, you Big Mutt!
