Super Jack! It’s another Hampden howler for England ace Butland

Today Jack Butland was a Hampden loser to Celtic for the third time in 18 months.

In May 2024 Super Jack presented Adam Idah with the only goal of the game in the Scottish Cup Final.

Last December he failed to stop any of Celtic’s five penalties as the hoops took the League Cup Final following a 3-3 draw.

Undeterred the former third choice Crystal Palace goalkeeper turned up at Hampden today with his usual misplaced sense of self importance.

A midweek penalty save against Hibs made it two wins out of two in the Danny Rohl revolution. A third win on the bounce would have presented Super Jack with a final against St Mirren and the chance to double his tally of winners medal.

In the third minute of extra-time Celtic were pushing forward when Auston Tusty laid the ball into the path of Callum McGregor.

The Celtic skipper knew what he wanted to do, he took two steps forward and let fly.

GOAL MCGREGOR!

John Souttar ducked below the shot. McGregor’s shot was central, Butland could have stopped it without moving. Instead he dived to his right as the ball flew into the net.

It was a mixture of mayhem and delight for the Celtic players, fans and management.

Once again Super Jack demonstrated why no club in the EPL wanted to know him when he was a free agent in the summer of 2023.

Butland has already seen off Micky Beale, Phil Clement and Russell Martin. He has one winners medal well into his third season in Scottish football.

No doubt he’ll soon be in the media, talking up today’s performance and deflecting from his failings.

With a lucrative contract running until May 2027 there is plenty time left in Butland’s contract. With Liam Kelly as understudy Butland’s place seems secure under his fourth manager in three years.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Butland should’ve done better, but that was a ferocious hit by Callum.
Off topic, but i see Ibrox are ‘demanding’ answers for the Trusty kick on Jack Butthole.
They get a wee buzz and at the first opportunity after a setback, they try to create a seige mentality and come out with all these false equivalences…as usual.
It’s always a sign that the pressure is on,yet again. Major crisis coming soon.
We want to sack the board…they’d actually hang theirs.
I’m expecting a huge eruption from their fans in the near future.

Big Jack looks punch – drunk. Strictly a ninety minutes man. Just like his team – mates!
