Celtic are reported to be showing interest in Hibs midfielder Josh Mulligan.
The 23-year-old moved to Easter Road from Dundee in the summer after a compensation fee was agreed between the two clubs for the player who was out of contract.
Celtic could have made a move at that stage but what happened and didn’t happen during the summer of 2025 will likely remain a complete mystery.
Mulligan signed a four year contract with Hibs who will clearly be in the driving seat if transfer negotiations get underway,
The Daily Mail reports:
Celtic are among the growing list of clubs showing an interest in highly-rated Hibs midfielder Josh Mulligan.
The 23-year-old Scot has been attracting rave reviews since joining the Edinburgh club on a free transfer from Dundee last summer.
Mulligan is a former team-mate of Luke McGowan who joined Celtic from Dundee for £1m in August 2024.
SPFL RISING STAR
At Dundee Mulligan was mainly used as a right-back but has impressed equally in midfield since switching to Hibs.
With Callum McGregor and James Forrest both over 32 Celtic are facing some serious issues in terms of home grown players for UEFA competitions.
Four club trained and four SFA trained players are required in the 25 man squads for UEFA matches.
McGregor, Forrest, Tony Ralston and Kieran Tierney were included this season alongside McCowan and Ross Doohan as SFA trained.
UEFA RESTRICTIONS
Unless Toby Donovan and Dane Murray step up soon Celtic could be going into UEFA competitions with a reduced squad.
The transfer window opens on Thursday but clubs are free to complete deals at any time, register with the SFA then the player becomes eligible to play from Thursday.
On 31 December 2021 Celtic announced the triple signings of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.
The following season Alistair Johnston made his Celtic debut on January 2 at Ibrox.
It appears that Wilfried Nancy is still assessing what the Celtic squad needs in the transfer market. There will be no live media conference today, the previews for the match at Motherwell were held after Saturday’s win away to Livingston.

Kenny is home grown but bloggers and fans are saying he is not good enough. He was very good last season for Shamrock Rovers domestically, and in the UEFA League. I want Kenny to make it with Celtic. Who hasn’t dropped form?
There is a striker from Brazil who was on loan with Pechuca, who returned to his home Club Fluminense in July 2025. Fluminense wanted 6 million Pounds for him.
He started in 5 games for Brazil U23 in Paris Olympic qualifications scoring two goals and one assist.
Brazil missed going to that summer Olympics. Maybe he could be available on loan for the rest of the Premiership. His name is John Kennedy. He is a good natured person but can be impulsive (I read that bit),
Editor: Kenny didn’t spent three years in the Academy of an SFA member club. He could be good enough but seems to have incredible inconsistency, scoring with ease then missing badly.
Josh Mulligan is a great shout , he can cover AJ & be a holding midfielder, BUT , the question is whether this board will sanction a 3/4 million pound bid knowing full well they could have had him for a sixth of that 6 months ago, would mean having to admit that our scouting of players is poor , which we already know, expect low budget players or loans come January, our problem at the moment is we are still in the hunt , and this board will hold firm and cross their fingers that we’re still in with a chance of league success, god help us . HH
Young Josh is apparently a keen auto mechanic in his spare time and has said he wants to open a garage after he retires from playing, called ‘Mulligan Tyres’.
The radio advertising jingle just writes itself – though Paul McCartney’s lawyers might be in touch….
Ha, Ha, nice one Cap’n! 🙂
Homegrown lads are to be preferred over these foreign duds at Celtic…
Especially ones that can leave the boot in !
