Richard Gough has been sharing his Ibrox heart-break in The Scotsman.

It is a glorious read. The pain pours out of every sentence from the former Rangers captain.

Playing during a period when Dave Murray had ways of outspending the biggest clubs in England, watching life at the Tribute Act is a distressing experience for ‘King Richard’.

EARLY MORNING PAIN

On Sunday he got up at 5.30am from his home in the USA to watch and listen Tom Miller through the 0-0 draw at home to Falkirk.

The fourth manager of this year managed to get his side to conjure up three shots on target.

Scott Bain, third choice at Celtic last season, left Ibrox with a clean sheet. In December Falkirk are two points behind the Ibrox Tribute Act.

Phil Clement, Barry Ferguson, Russell Martin and Danny Rohl have been unable to shift the losers mentality.

Captain Disappointed has been their Player of the Year to date.

It is all getting too painful for Gough to endure.

The former captain of the old Rangers club feels forced to break an old tradition as he told The Scotsman:

We were always taught you never criticise Rangers Football Club if you have played for them. You don’t criticise the club you played for, that was a thing but it’s come to the point where I am thinking, ‘they need a shot across the bows!’

What do you call it when someone is struggling or should be in rehab? They need an… intervention. It’s just not getting any better. I feel sorry for the manager at the moment.

Times change big man.

During the nineties Celtic won three trophies.

Since arriving at Ibrox James Tavernier has watched Celtic win five trebles and three doubles. And there’s more.

So what should Andrew Cavenagh do to restore old glories short of attracting better players through disguised remuneration scams?

Gough added:

They should be going around people like (Ally) McCoist and gaining as much advice as they can, put it all together from guys who have been successful at the club.

Note: Malmo and Maribor were on McCoist’s watch. He agreed the wages for Ian Black, Kevin Kyle, Dean Shiels, Fran Sandaza, Nicky Law and others that set the tone on over indulgence. Such as staying at Trump Turnberry before playing at Stranraer!

Hopefully Gough, McCoist and the rest of the crew can feature again at Ibrox as karma strikes again and again. With interest.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

6 grand a week Super Swally paid wee Black to play in the bottom league ….no wonder he had a gambling problem !

  • Captain Swing says:

Gough was undeniably a talented football player but every time he opened his stupid gob he just came across as a self-regarding blowhard. Much may have changed since the 1990s, but that certainly hasn’t.

  • Oh Mr Vegas says:

Oh dear Dick Gough demanding the old faces from the old dead klub, come back to the new klub and help out.
Those are the ARSEHOLES that sent the old klub to the cemetery in the first place and now Dick wants those same people into the klub, which will probably end up in a grave beside the old klub.

Lol that’s a belter staying at Trump Turnberry while the ARSE was hanging out of their trousers.

    Richard Gough
    aka Richard the Turd(Jabber).
    Giving words of advice.
As usual one of the entitled Murray era squad whose EBT’s brought about RIFC’s Downfall, visiting Dear Auld Scotia and ignoring the last 25 years of football history, Administration, Liquidation, 140 years of History lost, ? Old Club same as the New Club.
As long as they persist in believing that they are the ‘Same Club’ the longer their pain will continue.
They have wasted the last 13 years and around £120 million masquerading as the Old Club and it hasn’t worked on any level.

Long may it continue under the benevolent(sic) guidance of American Business Legislation. The so called 49ers have delivered the Club, Lock, Stock and smoking Barrel, to a bunch of anonymous carpetbaggers whose only intention is to maximise the return on their investment as quickly as possible. The Ibrox hordes ain’t seen nothing yet, more pain is on their horizon.

Joe, that video is brilliant, laughed my way through it.

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

A Dick by name and a Dick by nature as well !!!

  • Bob (original) says:

“…They should be going around people like (Ally)… and gaining as much advice as they can…”

And Gough was doing OK until that sentence!

The advice from any ex-ibrox player or manager is arguably irrelevant at this point?

The American owners’ focus is on breakeven point for the business. That’s it.

The footy aspirations will just have to wait…! 🙂
