After his gas-lighting performance for the broadcast media Wilfried Nancy had a sit down with newspaper reporters.
Keith Jackson and Robert Grieve were on the invite list from Iain Jamieson as he attempts to keep legacy media sweet, deflecting attention from Celtic’s CEO, Chairman and majority shareholder.
It is a long running arrangement even thought combined the Record and Sun sell around 80,000 copies each day in Scotland. And falling fast, at around 20% year on year.
CELTIC COMMUNICATION MANAGER
Jamieson still considers that audience as important. After four years of crumbs to Celtic fan media that door has been closed. Certainly, a club like no other.
Nancy has a good command of English but isn’t 100%. In football management 90% English is dangerous. Footballers are sharp, weaknesses are taken advantage of.
Nancy is very much on his own, in a bubble with Kwame Ampadu, Paul Tisdale and Gavin Strachan. Who wouldn’t suffer in there?
After the self pity and gas-lighting of his broadcast media interview Nancy decided to discuss Presidents and prisons with newspaper reporters.
They’d barely be able to keep a straight face as they listened in, encouraging the Celtic manager to dig a bigger hole.
The journey back from Lennoxtown would have been satisfying, laughing their heads off at the content they’d been handed on a plate.
The Sun reports Nancy saying:
Until I was 14 I was changing country every two years.
I have friends who are the president of a country and I have friends who are in jail. Perspective is everything.
That is what I take into my career from my background.
It comes back to results. I am craving to win games — not to shut the mouth of everybody.
I don’t do this battle for me. I do it for my players, just for the board, and for the club.
For me life is like that. People might think I’m an idealist as a person, but not at all. I know exactly who I am and exactly where I want to go. And I know at this moment, yeah my ass is burning right now! But stay strong and do what you need to do to be better.
Celtic fans think that you are a fantasist Wilf, not an idealist.
We have experience of these types.
CELTIC BANTER YEARS
We have watched and laughed at them all across the city.
Mark Warburton charmed the media into talking him up as a future England manager. A waffler, full of management speak, apparently a former City trader. Dealing in billions every day.
He lasted 27 matches in the SPFL Premiership.
Graeme Murty had two humorous stints as caretaker. Chewing his anorak and doing handstands. He quit as a quivering wreck following a 5-0 skudding at Celtic Park, two weeks after a 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat.
And so it went on. Through Micky Beale and Phil Clement to Russell Martin. Outstanding training sessions and swimming sessions in Loch Lomond.
We gave them all their own place in the Banter Years.
Nancy is very much the Celtic Banter. Hopefully it won’t be more than one chapter, certainly not a year.
And there overseeing it all is Jamieson. Allowing an under fire manager to waffle about prisoners and Presidents.
Last week Jackson was discussing green trainers with Ryan Stevenson.
Perhaps Jamieson is doing us all a favour by accelerating the exit of Nancy. Others might put it down to sheer incompetence from the Celtic Communications Manager.

Should Wilfried Nancy be sacked by Celtic?
YES: He is miles short of what is needed
NO: Give him time, he is on the right lines

Had a feeling it wouldn’t be long before he started waffling in front of the Scottish newspaper press. These guys will just lead him down the garden path. Ange, Brandon, martin, even Neil could shut it down with a word if they didn’t like these guys agendas. I was worried he was going to go to the Premier sports podium after the game on Sunday. There is no way those who appointed Nancy can survive this.
I can see maybe this time next year, say the player james forrest or Luke McCowan appearing on Si Ferrys show and talking about the past week under Nancy. Guys all banging the tables laughing, maybe slaney rolling about on the floor when he hears the stories.
Dundee United are 11/2 to win tonight. Maybe this is all part of a Desmond/Tony Bloom syndicate betting scam and it will be over soon as nobody can be this bad.
11/2? As much as I hate to say it, that could be stealing money.
We just don’t look like scoring and the MiB will certainly hand Utd every conceivable advantage.
I certainly cannot envisage a win.
On a cold wet night in Dundee, I just don’t think our guys will be up for it, we will get the obligatory first 10mins looking like Barca but that soon passes.
Watching all this unfold is like watching a member of your family in serious trouble. With all your experience, you know, you just know how it’s gonna end. And you keep telling them…
Yes, all the joking aside. The celtic board have a duty to pull this guy soon to protect him to. None of them have helped him the same as the rangers guys never came out for martin. They could have sat at his unveiling and spoke of their vision under him but they never because they can’t handle being in front of the cameras and dont have a vision other than slashing the wages paid to the celtic manager and hoping to get cheap American and Canadian players in.
He could talk any amount of unfiltered pish he wanted if he was winning football matches – Mourinho does, Wenger often did. When you aren’t winning football matches and aren’t convincing anyone that you are improving things and you talk irrelevant drivel to hostile hacks who must think Christmas has come a week early, you sound like a delusional fantasist. He has stumbled blindly out of Russell Martin creek and arrived in Caixinha county now.
You need to prove that you can win a game mate
Give a try tonight
90% command of English ? If that’s the case, how come I can’t understand anything he’s on about ?
Tonight is the acid test for Nancy. He will either have learned very quickly that results count and we will see a huge improvement …or he will have no way back. He’s definitely got a bit of arrogance and self belief…but hopefully he has some self awareness to realise he’s not indispensable..even this early. I
“I have friends that are in jail” says Nancy Boy…
Aye us – The Celtic Support !
On a life life sentence we are with him…
Meanwhile Lucan keeps him on remand in a dugout…
Still there tonight as well !
