Unacceptable- Henry Winter gives his verdict on Wilfried Nancy

Henry Winter has delivered his verdict on Wilfried Nancy’s start to managing Celtic. Unacceptable.

That is probably one of the most diplomatic views on social media, very few Celtic fans are ‘buying into’ their new manager.

The contrast with Martin O’Neill is vast. In every areas, not just results.

O’Neill delivered seven victories out of eight as interim boss. His successor has lost three on the bounce.

The performances are as concerning as the results. Even more worryingly Nancy seems oblivious to the concerns of the Celtic support, fans that have watched successful managers at close range.

At every media conference the Frenchman talks up aspects in games where Celtic are apparently playing well.

Not many fans share that view with Derek McInnes and Stephen Robinson outsmarting Nancy with far few resources.

One of England’s leading football writers cast his eye over events at Hampden and Celtic in general.

Winter explains:

Nancy inherited a squad with deficiencies at a club divided between board and fanbase. For all his admired work in MLS, Nancy is unproven at this level and at a club with this intense level of scrutiny.

He needs time – and a transfer window – to be judged properly but this is Celtic, one of the most famous clubs in the world. Three defeats on the spin is unacceptable.

Nancy certainly should have waited until the January window before attempting to implement his style. He also needs to exude more positivity about his players. As O’Neill did.

Nancy will be at Lennoxtown this morning. The Celtic players probably return tomorrow with a media conference to be faced on Tuesday to look at the match with Dundee United.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Every manager in the SPFL Premiership has a template of how to defeat Nancy’s Celtic side, Jim Goodwin was at Hampden yesterday watching his opponents on Wednesday.

Sky Sports will turn their full attention onto the new manager at Celtic having watched how quickly Russell Martin lost it at Ibrox.

It wouldn’t be a shock if Nancy’s time at Celtic is just as short lived.

What happens next is anyone’s guess but after having three manager’s so far this season it wouldn’t be a surprise if there was another change in the Celtic dug-out.

There is virtually no time for Nancy to work things out on the training ground. At this stage of the season it is all about man-management with Celtic fans concerned by the evidence on their new boss.
