Jack Butland was put up to deliver soothing messages to the media following his side’s 0-0 draw with Falkirk.
It is a role that the former Crystal Palace reserve excels in.
Butland loves speaking to the media, whatever the occasion or circumstances he revels in being the centre of attention.
DISAPPOINTING
With James Tavernier dropping the D-word into his comments after drawing with Braga on Thursday the skipper ducked out of media duties on Sunday.
Approaching two and a half years at Ibrox Butland has experienced six different managers.
Micky Beale, Steve Davis, Phil Clement, Barry Ferguson, Russell Martin and Steven Smith have all had the full backing of good guy Butland. All six have been emptied with the former Stoke starlet flapping about at crosses and shots low and to his left.
Danny Rohl is the latest manager dependent on Super Jack. Against Falkirk there were a few dodgy moments from the keper in the second half before a clean sheet was achieved. Just like Scott Bain at the other end of the pitch.
Wee Stevie from Four Lads Had A Team fired in some meaningful questions before Super Jack found his comfort zone:
I can’t sugar-coat it. I don’t want to use phrases about going again because I know what it means and I know what the fans are seeing, especially from a results or performance perspective which is not good enough. So I’m not going to try and pretend that it’s where it needs to be.
But what I do have is belief in the manager. I believe in what he’s trying to do and I believe in the messages he’s trying to get across.
Excellent. Beale, Clement, Ferguson and Martin heard the same reassurances from Super Jack.
As a group, we’ve got to do better at putting those messages on the pitch and perform better. Simple as that.
Slipping into his usual upbeat positive messaging mode, despite watching the dross in front of him, Butland added:
SOOTHING
It’s about everybody helping each other a bit more. Let the shackles off and just play a bit more. A bit more freedom. We have to help to get these players into positions where we know that they can be difference-makers.
It might be going away on internationals where things are a lot more settled. Things haven’t been very settled here.
But, with this manager, I believe that we’re on our way to doing that. For me, it just comes back from a performance perspective. We’ve got to help each other a lot more.
We’ve got to keep getting these players into positions. Keep encouraging them to go and be themselves. To go and create.
I hope it will click. I believe that there’s the ability there. You’ve mentioned a few that we know have got the ability. We’ve seen it, but we need to see it more often.
That’s on all of us. That’s on all of us helping each other out at both ends of the park, making our lives a lot more easier than perhaps what we’re doing at the moment.”
Super Jack will be saying much the same in August as he looks forward to the 26/27 season under another new manager.
With three away games at Dundee United, Kilmarnock and Ferencvaros coming up Butland will be providing more upbeat updates over the next 10 days. He knows the script to perfection.
Last December he lingered around at Hampden to watch Celtic collect the League Cup and celebrate. Apparently it would motivate him into becoming a winner.
His Scottish medal collection remains at one. One less than Shaun Rooney of St Johnstone.
I may be wrong but is this big Jack’s 5 th theRangers ‘ revolution ‘ as far as new manager’s are concerned ? Beale …Clem- ohn …Mrs Ferguson’s husband…Martin and now Herr Rohl ? That’s an enormous amount of 10’s of millions of sovs which the tribute act did not have to spend on utter failure …but if the daily Record ‘sport desk and scoops ‘ are happy with the current situation , then everything is fine and dandy , Mandy ?
