Horrific roll of 26 Celtic signings by Lawwell and Tisdale

Everything Celtic has compiled a list of players signed since Ange Postecoglou left Celtic in June 2023.

With Brendan Rodgers sidelined recruitment has become something of a mystery.

Mark Lawwell was front and centre over four transfer windows. There was some respite during 2024 as Rodgers wrestled control but in 2025 it has been all about Paul Tisdale.

DOGS BREAKFAST

The outcome of all this is the hand-over squad that Wilfried Nancy has inherited, best summed up on the wings.

During 2025 Celtic sold one right winger and signed three left wingers. Under the only consistent winning run Yang Hyun-jun has displaced Sebastian Tounekti and Michel-Ange Balikwisha. Two summer signings costing £10m and on long term contracts.

In his first match in charge Nancy attempted to install his favoured 3-4-3 on the squad.

He selected three left footed defenders and hoped to get width from Tounketi and Yang.

Under Postecoglou the wide options consisted of James Forrest, Liel Abada, Jota and Daizen Maeda. None of the current wingers would get on the bench at that time.

The summer 2023 signings of Lawwell Junior set the club on the course to where we stand today.

THE DOWNTURN

After a return to the Champions League and domestic treble three or four quality first team ready signings were needed.

Even more so with Aaron Mooy retiring through injury. Nicholson was working hard on selling Jota and Carl Starfelt, reducing the first team by three important players.

With that in mind Mark Lawwell brought in the Not so Magnificent Seven of:

Maik Nawrocki (£4.3M) – Rarely featured for Celtic or even made match-day squads, currently out on loan. Luis Palma (£3.4M) – A decent player who made a good start, found himself struggling for game time & currently out on loan. Gustaf Lagerbielke (£3M) – Never got a look in & struggled to even make match-day squads at times, sold to Braga where he is a regular in their XI. Odin Holm (£2.6M) – Another who struggled to make match-day squads, currently on loan at LAFC where he hasn’t played since April. Yang (£2.1M) – A player who probably wouldn’t still be here had it not been for our failings in the market, shows flashes but ultimately not at standard needed. Marco Tilio (£1M) – Played just 28’ sold to Rapid Wien. Kwon (£1M) – Never played a single minute, sold to Nantes.

In three weeks time the transfer window opens for the month of January.

On 31 December 2021 Celtic announced the signings of Reo Hatate, Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi.

That level of signing is needed more than ever. Topped up by the mid January signing of Matt O’Riley.

Going on all of the evidence it is highly unlikely that Tisdale’s analytics is suddenly about to start bringing in first team players.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Any cash he does get,he will do a bunk up Smyth’s Toy Shop to add his Connect4 and Etchasketch collection.

    That’s a rather sobering / shocking comparison !

    And yes:

why would we be stupid to think that this January window will be anything different?
