David Low has tweeted that there will be more resignations from Celtic in the new year.
At 3.45pm today it was announced to the London Stock Exchange that Peter Lawwell was stepping down as Chairman at the end of the year.
Even though Brian Wilson is stepping up as Chairman the news of Lawwell’s departure was met by glee across the Celtic support.
Without doubt the best announcement from the club this year.
BEHAVE! LAWWELL SIGNS OFF
Typically Lawwell steps down with yet another attack on the Celtic support. Backed up by comments from Dermot Desmond and Michael Nicholson.
His contempt for supporters is crystal clear.
At the AGM he couldn’t contain his contempt for shareholders. At one point he yelled BEHAVE.
Lawwell gave Ross Desmond permission to read out a blistering attack on fans and shareholders. Halfway through that speech Lawwell abandoned the AGM.

Your verdict on exiting Chairman Peter Lawwell
HERO: a LEGEND, one of the true Celtic greats
ZERO: Personal interest before Celtic every time
Lawwell has been draining a salary out of Celtic since 2003, peaking in 2018/19 when he was paid £3.5m on turnover of £83.5m. In October 2016 it was revealed that Lawwell and a number of former Celtic players were under investigation by HMRC in relation to their investments in the film industry.
Tom Allison and Brian Wilson have both been Non Executive Directors for over 20 years, Dermot Desmond has been on the board since 1995.
GOOD GOVERNANCE…
Corporate Good Practise recommends that Non-Executive Directors serve for 5-8 years to retain their independence. Appointing a former CEO as Chairman is a complete no-no.
All of the directors have been in agreement with the summer transfer policy which led to the resignation of Brendan Rodgers.
At the same time Paul Tisdale has risen to the position of Head of Football Operations. With the consequences there to see on the pitch.
Under Lawwell and his messengers it is often stated as FACT! that Celtic are one of the best run and most admired clubs in Europe.
That myth is fully exposed by their European record under Lawwell where Maribor, Malmo, Cluj, AEK Athens, Ferencvaros, Midtjylland and Kairat Almaty have brushed the hoops aside in Champions League qualifiers.
Lawwell leaves with Celtic 58th in the UEFA co-efficient table– the most fitting tribute to his contribution to the club since 2003. And with a former Exeter City manager making the football decisions.
Last night Celtic lost four successive matches for the first time since 1978 as fans chanted for more resignations. On Sunday Aberdeen visit Celtic Park looking to make it 5-in-a-row.

‘World class in everything we do’
World class wankers
I believe that Peter Lawwell resigned simply to try and ease the pressure on the board & his age & payoff also comes into it , what I can’t understand is why there has been no arrests when allegations of physical assault, particularly when it’s claimed Paul Tisdale was allegedly half strangled , has yet to be made , don’t get me wrong ( if true ) it’s not acceptable by any Celtic supporters to behave in this manner.
But frustration probably played a part in what may have been a heated debate at that point in time, not in anyway condoning it , but when you feel that your not being listened to by someone who should not be anywhere near this football club, it can get to you , again this is not an excuse for what allegedly happened, but you are a fan for 40/50 years & here’s someone who has just turned up for work , and he treats you with disrespect as if he’s your boss as well , this is now going to get ugly, the board had the chance to smoke a peace pipe , but that naughty little word called ARROGANCE got in the way . HH
Editor: As we have learned over the last 22 years Lawwell does what is in his interests every single time.
Excellent Analysis Sir!….. I Believe D.D. Is the Major Driver at Celtic?
Cheerio
Probably the greatest asset ranngers will ever have. Presided over an era where Scottish football was and is of a low standard, and downsized accordingly. Glad he’s gone and hope the rest of them follow very soon.
Corporate greed, stop giving them your money
Lawwell quit before ,then slithered back in when the dust settled
Joe the 8% who’ve declared him a hero in your poll are obviously delusional happy clappers. To say he’s a divisive character is putting it mildly his tenure will be remembered for his utter contempt for our supporters and the arrogance he’s shown over his twenty odd years at the club. He covered up a lot of things from the Rangers liquidation and subsequent death, and he’s constantly lied to us concerning the 5 way agreement and Resolution 12 amongst many other lies too. He might claim that he’s presided over unprecedented success but that’s in spite of him not because of him and players, managers and backroom staff win trophies not CEO’s or Chairmen. As for the threats to him and his family that’s all hearsay unless there’s been irrefutable proof that led to arrests and convictions in a court of law so you can take that with a pinch of salt. If it were true why come back to the club for another three years and continue the harassment and supposed threats? Only a moron would do that, and although I’ve got a personal dislike for the man he’s clearly not a moron. I’d also say though that if his accusations are true that every Celtic supporter would condemn that and expect any guilty party to feel the full extent of the law come down on them. I’m also fully aware that there’s an unsavoury element amongst our support as most clubs have so I’m not naive enough not to recognise that there could be an element of truth in his accusations too but as I said earlier it’s hearsay unless any convictions have been secured. As far as I’m concerned Lawell leaving is a step in the right direction and the first of many resignations from our incompetent and not fit for purpose board HH
I’d love to really think David Low is correct – But not holding ma breath sadly !
