There was one overwhelming message from Celtic Park on Sunday- SACK THE BOARD.
The mechanics of that are complex but the message is simple.
There is no place in the present or the future of Celtic for Michael Nicholson, Peter Lawwell or Chris McKay. There is another figure in that narrative but he isn’t an employee.
CELTIC MESSAGING
As the players emerged from the tunnel there was consistent messaging around the three stands put in place by Fergus McCann in the late nineties.
SACK THE BOARD with various Celtic Supporters Clubs putting their names to the protests.
Nicholson is on a crusade to dismantle and crush the Green Brigade. Yesterday their section was empty but the rest of Celtic Park showed that they aren’t alone. This isn’t an ultras thing. It isn’t a tiny minority of fans.
The Directors Box at Celtic Park provides a brilliant panorama of the rest of the stadium. Wherever they looked Nicholson, McKay and Brian Wilson were greeted with one message. Chairman Lawwell had something better to do than watch the ill-behaved customers express their dissatisfaction.
At 1.15pm a gathering of fans at St Mary’s was addressed by members of the Celtic Fans Collective.
SACK THE BOARD
Despite the lashing rain numbers grew to 5,000 as they marched to Celtic Park. As they went up The Celtic Way the message was loud and clear- SACK THE BOARD.
Then they stopped and chanted within earshot of the hospitality areas where corporate fans gather, pouring money into the club.
Sky Sports barely showed any crowd scenes before the match.
The Celtic PA tried to change the mood by playing You’ll Never Walk Alone. The discontented fans raised their scarves- alongside the banners spelling out their demands for change.
Sky Sports did however pick up on Paul Tisdale enjoying a power nap during the second half of the home defeat from Hearts.
The former Exeter City boss is a fast mover- clearly he has an eye on winning a place on the Celtic board as they double down on their contempt for the pesky customers and shareholders.
Celtic play Roma on Thursday. it will require some incredible spin to push this as one of the great European nights under the floodlights.
Must admit, I had no idea that Tisdale had such limited experience.
It’s an eye-opener, and doesn’t give confidence about January, or future transfer windows either?
It’s a bit like ‘shrinkflation ‘ in the supermarkets: your chocolate bar, bag of whatever, Quality Street tin, etc.
are getting smaller – but the customer is still being charged full price!
Under PL/MN, the players have been getting ‘smaller’, along with the staff including Tisdale,
and now a manager from the MLS.
…but the club still gouges the money out of the support, just to add to the cash pile. 🙁
Great optics and great to see the solidarity. We will not roll over and let them bankroll us for their disgusted, apathetic vision for the football Club!
Sky will only broadcast negative Celtic stories so funny they never did a video or tv coverage of this…
