Henrik Larsson played alongside some of the greatest players of this century.

From Celtic he moved on to Barcelona and Manchester United. His team mates at those clubs revere the legendary Swede.

Larsson spent seven glorious years at Celtic, scoring 242 goals and leaving much more in memories.

Post Lisbon Lions he is considered the greatest Celtic player.

In the modern age it is impossible to imagine a world class talent devoting seven years to playing in Scotland.

Larsson did that and more.

LARSSON NAMES HIS BEST EVER

He made Celtic a presence in Europe, led the team to the 2003 UEFA Cup Final with goals, bravery and leadership qualities in a team full of strong characters.

Outside of Scotland Larsson remains something of a mystery.

It is hard for English and Catalan audiences to understand why such a talent spent the bulk of his career in Scotland.

Appearing on The Overlap the former Celt almost silenced his EPL hosts when he was asked if peak Ronaldinho, at Barcelona 2006 was the best player that he had played alongside.

Yeah, he is up there, but, honestly Lubo Moravcik, he is so under-rated.

LUBO WHO?

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were almost left open mouthed by that answer.

Roy Keane stepped in with a question, as a Celtic fan he knows about the magic of Moravcik.

Larsson went on to explain the ability of Moravcik.

Chris Sutton, John Hartson, Neil Lennon and Paul Lambert would all give similar answers.

After eight years at St Etienne, Bastia and Disburg Moravcik joined Celtic in the autumn of 1998, aged 33.

He made an incredible impact. Some fans regret not seeing prime Moravcik at Celtic. Others likeLarsson are grateful that they got to experience some of the magic.

Joe McHugh has edited Video Celts since 2010, every day covering events in and around Scotland's most successful club.

When a six year stretch at the Sunday Mirror came to an end it was clear that the future was digital, print had ran its race.

Smart phones and social media created a new landscape, Video Celts has certainly made an impact with Joe described as having an unhealthy obsession by Peter Lawwell at the 2024 Celtic AGM. A priceless endorsement.

There are issues breaking around the clock, no two days are the same. More than 50 years on from his first match Joe is enjoying the ongoing successes of Celtic.

Hugh Keevins rated John Spencer a better player than Lubomir Moravcik. I’d agree, after all John was a three-time World “snooker” Champion.

  • AL says:

    Ask Zidane who Lubo is.

  • Captain Swing says:

During his time at St Etienne, Moravcik was on top form and expected to make a big move to Italy or Spain until a bad injury – a broken leg, I believe – derailed his career for a few years and by the time he was back to his best his chance was perceived to have been and gone. We were the beneficiaries of him being overlooked. I have occasionally wondered what he and the similarly-aged McStay might have looked like together in the same midfield during their peak years…..

I think anyone who saw Lubo play realised he was a very special talent. Both feet were magical and the sheer power he generated into the ball to strike was seriously awesome.
Keevins and co made their ‘wise’ judgements early and got the usual egg on their faces soon after. A REAL pity Lubo wasn’t with us for that long but thank your lucky stars we had him. And Doctor Jo Venglos who signed him but was gone a year later. Some of you, with better memories than mine, will know more about why Dr Jo left but I’d guess it was the board yet again. Oh when will we get the board we deserve?

If i remember right Dr Jo was brought in just a few days before the first game of the 98/99 season. Eric Black was teamed up with him and he signed Vidar Riseth and Lubo. Celtic were knocked out the LC at airdrie, and CL match vs Zagreb before August was out. Viduka came in January and teamed up with Henk and got us to SC final but Huns were just to strong thst season as they gutted the ‘stalwarts’ of their 9 in a row tesm for the Dutch and Italian guys under Advocaat. They won a treble in that Rod Wallace final. Celtic fans wanted more for the next season and we got the dream team of Barnes/terry mcdrermot and Dalgeish!

  • Clachnacuddin and the Hoops says:

I remember him scoring a pure magical winner v Goram in The Motherwell goal on 83’ minutes at Parkhead…

That was the night that NOTHING was goin by Goram but hey Lubo beat him !

    • Galtee mountain boy says:

When I think of lubo (apart from dismantling them in the 3 0 and 5 1 games) I see the winner in league cup semi vs killie (a rare header from the wee man) just after Barnes was sacked and lashing the ball high into the celtic net to get Barnes the sack vs ICT! Sitting on the ball moment vs hearts to.
