Chris Sutton believes that there is a very credible manager sitting on Celtic’s doorstep.
The hoops should be in the process of appointing a permanent manager but with a virtual news black-out no-one knows where that process stands or who is involved.
Head of Football Operations Paul Tisdale left the club with Wilfried Nancy.
Having declared the Frenchman as the outstanding candidate for the job Michael Nicholson’s judgement is seriously flawed.
SUTTON CALL OUT FOR MOTHERWELL BOSS
While Celtic are on their fourth management team of the season, 15 miles down the M74 things are ticking along very smoothly at Motherwell.
Jens Berthel Askou has completely transformed the Fir Park side with a brilliant mix of coaching and management.
With barely any money spent the Dane has imposed a playing style and intense belief that has transformed the club.
If anyone at Celtic needs an insider reference Stephen Welsh is the perfect testimonial.
Sutton watched Motherwell dominate against Danny Rohl’s side in midweek.
In December Askou dominated and trashed Nancy’s Celtic.
Putting the evidence together Sutton told the Daily Record:
I’m now convinced Jens Berthel Askou would be a great fit for Celtic.
You want his Motherwell team and your can’t help but be impressed. They are arguably the best side to watch in the country.
He’s managed to build a team that is solid defensively, superbly maintains possession and creates chances – and all on a fraction of the money spent at other clubs.
It’s been a remarkable job. I’ve never seen a Scottish team do what Motherwell has done this season – and that’s dominate against Celtic and Rangers.
Usually tams set up to try to stop the Glasgow clubs playing. Instead it’s been the other way around this year.
I’ve also been impressed with the way he communicates in the media. He just ticks so many boxes for me.
It’s hard to know what Dermot Desmond will be thinking as he’s shown in the past he’s capable of making bold, big name appointments, like Brendan Rodgers and O’Neill first time around.
There’s been a lot of talk around Martinez, and that’s been there for a number of years now.
But I just think there is a guy on Celtic’s doorstep who is showing a lot of positive attributes to be a success at the club.
It would be fascinating to see how he would do with more resources.
Askou joined Motherwell in the summer after spells as assistant manager at FC Copenhagen and Sparta Prague.
Previously he had managed IFK Gotaborg as well as in the Faroes and Danish lower leagues.
No-one has a genuine steer on who will manage Celtic next season but you’d imagine that Askou is somewhere in the conversations.
Celtic still have to play Motherwell twice before Martin O’Neill again calls it a day.
With a massive rebuild required during a World Cup year the task facing the next Celtic manager is possibly bigger than the one Ange Postecoglou accepted in 2021.
Askou has nothing like the experience of the Australian but after a successful season in the SPFL he will know exactly what Celtic need to succeed.

And Jens Berthel Askou will not be afraid to call out all snide and corrupt practices from the referees and VAR lapdogs if he is to be the next Celtic FC head coach ? A guy who can see the incompetence and dishonesty of officials , right in front of his face .
A guy who can see the obvious favouritism and biased decision making by the same officials . A guy who understands that we need to have a neutral and impartial set of people refereeing our game in a totally even handed and fair fashion …or else we have anarchy !
Next up will be his outing of the SMSM poodles and their undying loyalty and staunch following for a certain clumpany from Ibroxland?
On those points alone , big Jens will be a shoo- in as next boss !
I think that he would be an outstanding appointment, Valentine, he’s clearly got Motherwell playing the best and entertaining and therefore most watchable football in the league.
My only concerns would be all of the points that you raise above – can you really see our board appointing such an outspoken manager? I would love it if they did but they usually shy away from such appointments. I hope I’m wrong though.
We shouldn’t be waiting until the end of the World Cup before appointing a manager either as there is much work to be done this summer.
Our new board you mean ? Because if this cabal of cowboys are still in charge next season again , then I don’t think the fans in general will accept it ? Change means change …of everything that is wrong ! Doesn’t it ?
Martinez and maloney for me and not forgetting Fozzy
Editor: What are the achievements of Martinez that impress you, why is he worth waiting until July to appoint for the biggest turnover of players ever?
Malaoney would be there to hand it over without changing everything,ok we need allot of players five quality additions would go along way. See the impact ox made Wednesday night he knew he scored before he even hit ball that’s the quality we need not projects. He managed Portugal Belgium and in England he have a cv.
Editor: His CV is as average as it gets. Decent job at Swansea many moons ago, an FA Cup and relegation at Wigan and nothing else.
No compensation goes to Spurs for recruiting Thomas Frank. He had success with Brentford. After his sacking from Tottenham, Thomas received generous praise from Mikel Arteta. Spurs have serious player problems, that Managers can’t cure. That includes Pochettino. Going back a few years some players were drinking a South American caffeine drink before games (legal) called Mate tea. It did not help them. Caffeine in Coffee makes my heart pulse rate quicken.
Caffeine was banned for the Olympic Pentathlon.
The whole approach to senior appointments at the club has to change.
No more nepotism, cronyism – or just lazy / convenient appointments.
If Celtic can pay up to a c.£3M salary for a manager,
then there really should be a proper, professional, global search
to identify strong candidates.
That search might flag up the Motherwell manager as a candidate – or not.
What do folks think is the best result for us ( assuming we beat Killie) in the Sevco game this weekend?
A Hearts win that keeps them at bay, or a Sevco win to keep it tight?
Or is it a draw that suits us?
A draw to keep Hearts’ form erratic,
and 2 draws on the bounce will have sevco supporters raging, obviously! 🙂
And, it would be doubly ideal for us to win by a good few goals,
to catch up with both their superior GD.
…it’s going to be a tight finish for the title.
A hun defeat every day of the week for me!
You’ll do for me, Johnny Bhoy, exactly what I feel.
Hun defeat every day of the year…
But Robertson, Bell, Stewart, And Clancy and spawn of the devil Dallas won’t allow it to happen…
Youse all know that for sure !
