Celtic have published comments made by Matthew MacDermid after losing an appeal against Auston Trusty’s red card against Hibs.
The defender will now miss three SPFL matches- at Ibrox, Pittodrie and at home to Motherwell on April 14. The defender will be available for UEFA and Scottish Cup ties.
Preparing for a corner kick Trusty found himself held by Jamie McGrath.
Similar incidents earlier in the match saw MacDermid intervene and speak to players.
Trusty lifted his right arm to strike McGrath’s left to break free from his opponent.
MacDermid saw enough to speak to both players but after being sent to the pitchside monitor he waved a red flag at the Celtic defender.
After Trusty’s appeal was rejected, tonight Celtic stated:
With regards to the outcome of today’s hearing regarding Auston Trusty, the club provides the following update:
We are hugely disappointed at today’s decision, which will now result in Auston Trusty being suspended for three matches after an “arm to arm” contact as he looked to release himself from being held prior to the ball coming into play – the kind of incident which features in games across the country week in week out.
The match audio demonstrates that the referee saw the incident clearly. Immediately following the incident, the referee said: “It’s nothing I’m just going to speak to them” in terms of no further action being required. In discussions with Celtic Manager Martin O’Neill after the match this was something he also confirmed.
However, VAR again decided to intervene to ‘re-referee’ an initial decision which had been made. While we await the written judgement, this and other decisions in the match and in other recent games demonstrate a serious issue with VAR and its current deployment which needs urgently reviewed.
Celtic’s refence to other decisions in the match is interesting.
Most Celtic fans felt more aggrieved by a pull on Liam Scales in the penalty box straight after Trusty was red carded. That incident hasn’t been detailed.
Going down to 10 men three days after a damaging European defeat proved to be too much for Celtic to deal with.
Ben Arthur was sent on for his Celtic debut, 12 minutes after the red card Hibs scored their decisive second goal.
Martin O’Neill is likely to be asked about the appeal being rejected at his media conference in Stuttgart tomorrow.
It looks like Arthur or Dane Murray could partner Scales in defence at Ibrox on Sunday. Other options are to play Kieran Tierney in central defence or switch to a back three.

MacDermid just another cunt in a long line of cunts from the Lanarkshire refereeing committee.
The culprit here is the person on VAR.
Var is re-refereeing incidents which affect Celtic and this is what happened here.
VAR is NOT SUPPOSED to re-referee incidents.
Fergus has previously proved how corrupt the SFA and certain officials are by getting lawyers involved.
Take them to court Celtic and stop pissing about. They are in the wrong.
Our Club should , separately, demand that Beaton be removed from refereeing the upcoming Sevco game…It’s farcical that he is anywhere near this fixture…and we should make our feelings known.
SFA are a disgrace var has to go as its ruining football its allowing cheating people to referee games
It’s no surprise that something like this happens before games against these cnts.
And all these fckrs that are saying better off without him get a grip. Wisnae that long ago he was the hero
Honestly, Celtic should refuse to play if Beaton is in charge…show his school yearbook and the photo of him in a Rangers pub….what is the point of playing for nothing.
This board should say enough is enough…they aren’t slow to act against their own supporters.
Another non entity statement from the custodians of OUR club. Takes me back to the drivel they spouted then against the red card shown surprisingly yet again to Trusty.
If my memory serves me I am sure they were full of disappointment and concerns about other issue and the second referee for us. VAR.
Yep, definitely the same drivel let’s project we actually care when in reality we don’t give a toss. Realistically, how many times could we have called them out but truth be told no-one in OUR club gives a shit.
Why should they the money just keeps on rolling for them. To top it all of we now have cheating Beaton. Happy days indeed.
It might be 6-1 to Sevco on Sunday with that Fu**in pair in charge !
Yep, thinking of going hiking that day.
Nobody asking why at every corner the ref stopped to talk to players but never once booked them , this could have all stopped ,no point in just talking to players
and as for the Board your silence on Var re-reffing the game has now caught up with you , to late complaining now kelly
