Douglas Ross had 95 minutes of joy on Saturday as he waved his flag during the Celtic v Dundee Scottish Cup tie.
With his income streams severely reduced the SFA stepped in to offer him 400 miles of travel allowances, a Glasgow hotel stay and the opportunity to influence a football match.
As a bonus the match would be live on television with Ross in camera shot, always a bonus for politicians.
When Dundee scored early in the second half it looked like it would be an especially memorable night for the former Westminster MP.
With barely 20,000 home fans inside the stadium there wasn’t the usual hostility to Ross as he shuffled his unfit figure up and down the touchline.

The Julian Araujo cross has been well analysed, it was impossible for the ball to follow the flight that Ross claimed.
Soon afterwards Celtic were denied a corner when Drey Wright got a touch to deny James Forrest a run at goal. Ross didn’t want to know.
ROSS OVERSTEPS THE MARK
