Celtic are reportedly preparing for a significant overhaul in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Scottish champions are planning to bounce back from a tumultuous season, which has been followed closely by fans across the world on official streams, with a triple transfer move being a key part of their strategy.
Celtic’s season has been a rollercoaster ride, marked by the resignation of former head coach Brendan Rodgers in October. His permanent replacement, Wilfried Nancy, lasted only 33 days after losing five of his seven games. Martin O’Neill, 74, has since taken over on an interim basis.
Currently trailing league leaders Hearts by five points, Celtic’s Scottish Premiership crown is at risk. The Celtic hierarchy is reportedly already identifying targets for the summer transfer window to regain their domestic dominance.
Hibernian central-midfielder Miguel Chaiwa and Motherwell winger Elijah Just are among Celtic’s key targets. Both players have been identified as part of the club’s planned squad overhaul, according to The Herald.
Chaiwa, 21, was previously linked with a move to Celtic on transfer deadline day in January, but no move materialised. Instead, the club strengthened their squad with loan signings of Junior Adamu, Joel Mvuka, and Benjamin Arthur.
Just, on the other hand, has been a key player for Motherwell under Danish head coach Jens Berthel Askou. The New Zealand international has scored six goals and assisted two more in 19 league games this term.
Celtic is also reportedly interested in former Liverpool and Norwich City defender Ozan Kabak, who is available on a Bosman free transfer at the end of the current campaign. Kabak, a former Bundesliga rookie of the year winner, has been compared to Manchester United centre-back Mattias de Ligt.
The 25-year-old Turkish international began his career with Galatasaray before moving to Stuttgart in 2019 for a fee of £13 million. After impressing at FC Schalke, he was loaned to Liverpool by former Reds manager Jurgen Klopp. However, after only nine appearances, Liverpool decided against making his move permanent.
Kabak then had a short loan spell at Norwich City before joining Hoffenheim in the summer of 2022. Despite Celtic’s top priority being to sign a new goalkeeper to replace 39-year-old Kasper Schmeichel, Kabak is viewed as a ‘cost-effective’ option to bolster their defensive options.
Celtic’s planned triple transfer move is a clear indication of their intent to regain their domestic dominance. With key targets identified and a potential new addition to their defence, the Scottish champions are gearing up for a major squad overhaul in the summer transfer window. Only time will tell if these moves will help Celtic bounce back from their season of turmoil.
