James Tavernier Crossbar Challenge- A Tam Sellic Production

James Tavernier added another classic chapter to the Banter Years on Sunday.

The former Wigan Athletic utility man is in the final weeks of his contract and is no longer a fixture on the Ibrox team-sheet.

Dujon Sterling started the match but as the teams prepared for extra-time Tavernier had taken the armband from Jack Butland.

There was no scoring during the 30 minutes with Don Robertson blowing sharply as Liam Scales prepared to take a long throw-in.

TAVERNIER WINS THE TOSS-TWICE

Sunday wasn’t without success for Captain Disappointed.

Robertson tossed a coin to decide which end the penalties were taken at. Tavpen guessed correctly.

Robertson tossed again, Tavpen won a second toss with his team getting to take the first penalty.

Naturally Tavernier would take the first penalty….

With the armband on, in front of the Union Bears the stage was set.

Tavernier did his usual silly dance. Stepped forward and sent his shot into the Copland Lower off the cross-bar.

Captain Disappointed then watched Alex Oxlaid-Chamberlain, Auston Trusty and Reo Hatate tuck their penalties away.

Then it was down to Djeidi Gassama, subject of a £12m bid from Monaco in January. Yeah, honestly.

Gassama sent it higher over the bar than his captain.

And then one-goal Tomas Cvancara stepped up. Super Jack Butland went one way, the ball went the other and Celtic went through.

Details of the Tavernier Testimonial are at the final stages with an announcement expected soon on a fitting farewell for the legendary skipper.

Former star team-mates such as Martyn Waghorn, Jason Holt, Joey Barton, Andy Halliday and Wes Foderingham are expected to put in appearance. Fans attending will be given the opportunity to get a picture with the Petrofac Cup.

Tavernier has still to announce whether he will continue playing elsewhere next season.
