GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 01: Celtic Manager Martin O'Neill (L) and Referee John Beaton (R) shake hands at full time during a William Hill Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium, on March 01, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Craig Foy/SNS Group via Getty Images)
It appears that only social media picked up on the penalty that Celtic were denied at Ibrox when Dujon Sterling manhandled Sebastian Tounekti out the pitch.
BBC Scotland, the Daily Record and other legacy titles seem to think that the raging debate is over the first goal from Youssef Chermiti.
Was it the greatest ever O** F*** goal or the greatest goal in the history or mankind.
Celtic have scored a dozen or more better goals since the fixture was first played in 2016.
Was Jota’s deft chip over Jon McLaughlin in September 2022 better than Odsonne Edouard’s winner at Ibrox in March 2018?
CELTIC’S IBROX GOAL FEAST
Was Mikael Lustig’s goal in the 5-1 Ibrox romp the best of that day?
Which of Moussa Dembele’s many Derby goals was the best?
Chermiti mania is providing a useful deflection from reality.
Social media and Celtic fan media is ensuring that the Tounekti penalty claim isn’t buried.
Going on what has happened in the past Thursday’s Daily Record will come up with a footnote article about ‘Celtic’s unseen penalty claim’. Except it wasn’t unseen.
It was being highlighted and discussed on Sunday night.

The incident happened in the 82nd minute, Sky Sports opted not to replay it. Much like John Souttar’s first half assault on Junior Adamu.
BBC Sportscene didn’t want to know.
All round John Beaton was praised for his performance!
He only missed that Tounekti incident, the 11th minute rugby tackle on Liam Scales and the regular hacking from Souttar.
This morning the SFA will announce the referee for Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox.
The only certainly is that Celtic are in for more of the same- whether from Don Robertson, David Dickinson or one of the other likely lads.
Martin O’Neill and his players know what to expect.

Whilst our board sit on their arses doing absolutely heehaw haw apart from attempting to divide the fans as usual, nothing will change.
Guaranteed it will be the real deal in Dickinson.
Fingers crossed for Sunday but it will be another scary hiding behind the couch number,I just wish we could click and give them a right good SCUDDING.
So dishonesty at BBC Scotland and Sky Sports Scotland then…
Anyone fu**in surprised…
At least we’re not paying for it which is something I suppose !
This could have all sorted in 2012 the cheating years, what do Celtic board do sign or at least accept the 5 way agreement which Petter lawwell hadn’t seen.
Just another reason fans hate the board.
What about Taviner last man tackle the same as Trusty at diet Huns not a mention of it & that panel is a whitewash on the Newco’s games always side with them and Celtic decisions are correct OMG. The best goal against them is Surely Hatate’s on Sunday two one-twos with the keeper and swept it in the corner of the net ?
Whilst FIFA and UEFA are even dodgier than our very own SFA,
you can appreciate why both organisations – continue to – have nothing to do
with Scotland’s ‘top’ match officials at the World Cup or Euros Finals.
We just have to suffer them – and whilst the Board collectively look at their shoes… 🙁
