In just over two months Julian Araujo has established his place in Celtic folklore.

Wilfried Nancy had an utterly disastrous 33 days as manager but in an ironic twist his one and only signing has been an instant hit.

How much involvement Nancy had in the deal is open to debate but the fact is that the Frenchman was the manager when the loan signing of Araujo from Bournemouth took place.

After coming on as a substitute in Nancy’s last match as manager Araujo has been a fixture in Martin O’Neill’s side.

Playing for Celtic generally requires more than ability. Especially in a season like this.

It would be easy for a January signing to fall by the wayside, feel sorry for themselves and drift out of the picture.

ARAUJO GETS IT!

Araujo has a Mexican World Cup place to aim for but has grabbed the opportunity of Celtic with both hands. On Sunday he took that approach to the Ibrox crossbar.

Leigh Griffiths celebrated victory by tying a Celtic scarf to an Ibrox goalpost. Seconds after Tomas Cvancara scored his penalty Araujo was swinging from the Free Broomloan crossbar in front of 7,500 Celtic fans.

The fans loved it. A Mexican/American shared their passion for the club, the jersey the need to succeed in the most toxic of fixtures.
