GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - MARCH 01: Celtic Manager Martin O'Neill (L) and Referee John Beaton (R) shake hands at full time during a William Hill Premiership match between Rangers and Celtic at Ibrox Stadium, on March 01, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Craig Foy/SNS Group via Getty Images)
According to the compromised media messengers John Beaton helped Celtic towards their win over Motherwell.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The man from the Crown Bar in Bellshill was in a foul mood throughout. It looked like he’d rather be anywhere else than at Celtic Park.
The events of successive Sunday’s at Ibrox has left a huge scar on fans of Scotland’s newest club.
After beating Hearts 4-2 they looked on the double header as the most significant period of the season.
Home matches to finish Celtic’s season and send James Tavernier towards a glorious send-off with two trophies in the blue room.
That dream scenario was shot down on two fronts. Celtic returned from Ibrox unbeaten.
DESPAIR FOR BEATON
With Beaton forced into the most distressing situation of his career. Forced by VAR to give Celtic an 88th minute penalty at Ibrox.
Overlooking the requirement to book Dujon Sterling was no consolation as Reo Hatate netted at the third attempt.
The post match party in the Crown Bar was off.
He didn’t not see this.
This was deliberate. So he is showing his inadequate ability. Solution, transfer to VAR— John Welsh (@John1960welsh) March 15, 2026
The incident above was almost as clear cut as the Daizen Maeda penalty that Beaton was forced into awarding.
Again he was perfectly placed.
As Tomas Cvancara moved into the corner of the penalty box Elliot Watt crossed the Celtic forward.
Beaton was very close by. The way that Cvancara went down tells you that there was contact. If there wasn’t Beaton would have booked the forward for simulation.
Kevin Clancy on VAR also opted out of doing his job. Play continued for some time with no suggestion of a check taking place.
The win lifted Celtic to just two points behind Hearts, a position they retained after Kilmarnock defeated McInnes’ side later on Saturday.
Of course the clip above didn’t make it into the highlights from Sky Sports, the SPFL or BBC Scotland. Nothing to see here.

It’ll all be ramped up and up and up as each of the last eight games comes to pass !
Cant runs like a coat hanger.
John loyalist beaton will not give celtic an ambulance if they were looking for onethe guy is a dirty cheat lowlife scumbag of a hun the rat his time will come when he gets it from the onion bears..
