Chris Sutton has virtually given up on Celtic’s SPFL title hopes.
With five matches left to play a run of straight wins will probably give Celtic the title for the fifth season running.
Three home matches out of five in the remaining programme should give the hoops an edge. Especially when the two teams above have to visit Celtic Park.
All of that is great in theory but watching Celtic this season it is very difficult to make a case for a team that has lost eight matches out of 33.
SUTTON CAN’T SEE IT TURNING
Two single goal wins over Dundee and St Mirren have suggested a team hanging in rather than launching a title charge.
Sutton has watched it unfold week by week. On Sky Sports today he was typically blunt with his views on the title race:
It’s impossible to predict. I don’t think Celtic can win it, it’s out of Hearts and Rangers.
You just worry about the next game, winning the next game and getting on with it.
Sutton’s views are in line with that of most Celtic fans. Other than blind faith it is hard to state a case for the current squad.
Since the close season Recruitment was clearly a major issue.
Right at the death of the window the squad was further weakened by the sale of Adam Idah to Swansea.
Shin Yamada was the only striker signed over two transfer windows. Yamada is currently unable to get into the matchday squad of a team near the bottom of Bundesliga II.
Brendan Rodgers secured Kelechi Iheanacho after the window closed. Seven months and two haMstring injuries later Iheanacho seems incapable to completing 90 minutes. He has started one match in 2026.
The problems and issues seem never ending.
Somehow Martin O’Neill has managed to keep the show on the road. Notching up the victories, usually by a single goal.
The business end of the season is about to get underway.
Celtic face St Mirren again, at Hampden on Sunday in the Scottish Cup.
After that they have five do or die SPFL matches to prove the critics wrong. After 33 rounds there is little evidence to suggest that everything is about to fall into place.
Even if we win all of our games we will need to outscore hearts

100% agree with Sutton Joe.. thanks to our incompetent penny pinching board they have handed the league and 50 million to the lowlife Huns or their cousins, hope I’m wrong Joe but the way team is playing were not winning league and it looks like the masonic brotheran will whistles will do everything in their corrupt power to make sure that happens…hope every Celtic fan remembers that …… Nicholson,Wilson, McKay and that tax dodging exile can get to f**k…( sorry Joe for bad language but it’s heart breaking to see our board doing this )
