On Sunday afternoon the colour drained from Kris Boyd’s face as his nightmare came into view.
Sky Sports viewers noticed that the famed Turkey teeth weren’t dazzling quite so brightly.
At 3pm Boyd had visions of praising Danny Rohl’s table toppers.
By 6pm he was questioning another batch of bottlers as they sat four points off the pace with four matches left to be played.
A look at the fixture list provided little comfort. Next up are trips to Tynecastle and Celtic Park, in reality only two wins will keep Rohl’s squad in contention. Anything less means curtains.
Boyd has been through the movie many times.
He left Ibrox in 2015 just as James Tavernier was arriving. In 11 years of misplaced hype Captain Disappointed has picked up three winners medals. A fourth is looking increasingly unlikely.

Despite the repeated favourites Boyd sets out at the start of every season expecting an Ibrox title party. It has been a long wait.
In England he is seen as the likeable Scottish idiot, full of fake enthusiasm and desperate to be everyone’s funny mate.
Scottish viewers know the real Boyd.
FRESH DESPIR FOR KRIS BOYD
Someone trying to put a brave face on his living nightmare.
For Celtic’s 2023 SPFL title presentation Chris Sutton brought a cardboard cut-out of Boyd into the studio.
His peers mock and laugh him.
With reality kicking in Boyd is lowering expectations and pointing the finger of blame at the latest batch of bottlers filling the home dressing room at Ibrox.
Discussing the defeat from Motherwell The Sun reports Boyd saying:
It was a huge body blow to Rangers.
I can understand the mentality question and that’s always going to be something journalists and fans are going to question until you actually win something.
Rohl can bat it away all he wants. The reality is it’s going to be a question that’s raised and it will always be there until they get over the line.
Rohl is right that Rangers have dragged themselves back into it but they were in a position to strike once again and they haven’t done so.
At the end of every season, if you don’t win it, questions will be asked of any Old Firm manager – it doesn’t matter who it is.
There’s no doubt there will be even more questions asked of Rohl if they finish third. That’s the nature of the beast.
People will go back to the start of the season and say that from where Rangers were to where they are now is night and day.
But you’ve got yourself in a position where you could have struck and right now they haven’t done that.
I get there are still four games to go and there will be twists and turns.
Rangers could find themselves getting back into it, but for me right now you’d have to say it’s highly unlikely.
Boyd will be back at Easter Road on Sunday assessing Celtic’s title hopes. The next day is decision time for Rohl- can he outsmart Derek McInnes?
Boyd was speaking at Trump Turnberry, the gold course owned by the current President of the USA.
