The Daily Record and Sun are both running with a Danny Rohl for Wolfsburg story.
It is a classic move as plans get underway to get rid of an unpopular and failing manager.
Rather than facing up to the costs of a sacking it can be turned around to a compensation windfall.
When Phil Clement was a dead man walking he was linked with managing Anderlecht and the Belgian national team.
After 10 months on gardening leave Clement took up the job of managing Norwich City.
Rohl was an underwhelming appointment in October. Anyone was preferred to Russell Martin.
Even a lanky German with a dubious hairstyle and only Sheffield Wednesday on his CV.
Wearing a club blazer and tie, plus brogues, Rohl gained instant approval.
A win over Wilfried Nancy at Celtic Park confirmed the brilliance of appointing Rohl as manager.
THE TIDE TURNS AGAINST DANNY ROHL
Doubts surfaced with draws at Motherwell and Livingston.
Back-to-back home matches against Celtic and Rohl’s side failed to land a punch.
Two months later and it is time up for Danny Boy after defeats to Motherwell and Hearts. There is barely an Ibrox fan defending their German manager.
After defending Rohl’s record The Sun offers hopes to fans that the former Sheffield Wednesday boss could soon be on his way out:
He seems certain to be given another chance next season to lead the Ibrox side to the title, but he’s been named on a shortlist in his native Germany to take charge of Wolfsburg.
The Volkswagen-backed club are in a battle to avoid relegation from the top flight and veteran boss Dieter Hecking is reportedly set to move upstairs to a football director role at the end of the season, regardless of whether they stay up.
And 37-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday manager Rohl is top of Wolfsburg’s wanted list, according to reports in his homeland.
Rohl was heavily linked with Wolfsburg last summer when he was still in charge at Hillsborough, but the move fell through.
And ex-Bayern Munich coach Rohl is back on their names under consideration with St Pauli manager Alexander Blessin, Hertha Berlin boss Stefan Leitl and currently unattached pair Thomas Reis and Dino Toppmoller.
Rohl has achieved a win rate of 56.76 per cent whilst at Gers.
Steven Gerrard is again the man that most Ibrox fans want to see as manager.
Since leaving Ibrox the former England internationalist has bombed in England and Saudi Arabia.
That doesn’t matter to fans who have had one tainted title to celebrate in the last 15 years.
Gerrard has been out of management since January 2025. His phone hasn’t been swamped by offers to get back involved.
If Celtic win on Sunday Rohl’s exit will be accelerated, as another summer of madness gets underway at Scotland’s newest club.

Why would a guy who has completely failed at his job in wee Scotland be top of anyone else’s list as head coach for their club ? It doesn’t make any sense whatsoever . What is it that he will do differently or superior to in any new job than his failed time in Scottish football ? Is it like he has been holding his best bits back hoping to get a better job and then show the fans what he can do ? Come on …..
Even if it were true that they was interest in him a follow up would reveal the impact the bent in black had on his time in scotland , we laughed as the bunion bears sang his name ffs , nope !! they’ll be no offers for the dole bound manager and when he does get his jotters he’ll come on a free !!! read and weep the slack jawed ones !!! haw !!! Chortle
As soon as they start pulling stories like this from out of their arses you know he’s toast
Joe if any German club is foolish enough to give hair flick a job he better leave his poppy in Glasgow….. seriously Joe he’ll be lucky to get a job managing a junior team
One of their village idiots got on the loose last night and called SSB,his reason for sevco not winning the league this season is that Stonner Barron didn’t play or get enough games, apparently had he played or been selected for more of the games the league title was heading to ibrox.
I didn’t even know he still played for them.
Hopefully another Barron season for Barron then Frank !
A Stitch in Time Saves Nine
It was a thatch made in heaven, a breath of fresh-hair when Danny donned the uniform of brogues, blazer and club tie. It’s knot as if he had the wool pulled over his eyes when he signed with the blue rinse and repeat Sevco salon. He brought his own Cut-N-Hedge ideas of trying to implant Samson new to the team. Acting as a Headmaster who learnt the side to strand firm in the dressing room, stick with it and give him the blow dryer treatment.
There was no splitting hairs it was their tuft lock if they got things wrong, they wouldn’t last fur beret long if things got under this skin-head. There might have been a few hairy moments with some hair-um scare-um problems when the side didn’t mane-tain possession and lost control of his Alf barnet. He got to the Root of the problem, he shaved time barbering on the safe side knowing his team were capable of taking some top scalps but in the end he combed-over the difficulties having hair-piece talks with the players rather than barking like a Yorkshire Terrier at them. As if he didn’t have enough on his pate, he was mop happy after defeats to Motherwell and Hearts just when he was on the fringe of getting an extension.
Herr flick’s title hopes hit many Donald Trumps on the road but the fans and he knew astro turf is enough. It wasn’t just another bad hair day, his tangled up in blue formations would come a cropper at the split ends of the season and they’d make a fuzz over his hair-style similar to R M’s. It was a bald move by the club but
it’s the million-hairs that make the decisions I’m a fraid. It must be time for Baldilocks and the three hairs to be carpet-head by the big wigs now.
Danny will think the rug has been pulled from above him, the mane thing is its time for him to be weaving soon, Vosene favour of him staying are growing shorter he should just Wash and Go. I’d lather he left with his Head & Shoulders held high and lock out for himself take his syrup of figs then they’ll have toupee him compensation for having Mr. Sheen a failure. He’s been barely in the job and must be aff frizz heid while the cat sat on his mat, no use hairpin on about it, the ungrateful dead have been hair before. All good things must comb to an end.
