Andy Halliday was the loneliest man in Glasgow yesterday as Daizen Maeda’s overhead kicked dropped under the crossbar to put Celtic 3-1 ahead in the Glasgow Derby.
Being a pundit is almost his full-time job, with it comes some very unpleasant moments. Just as Kris Boyd.
The former Kilmarnock ace has suffered for a decade in the Sky Sports studio.
Putting on a brave face as Celtic dominate the Scottish game while talking up every Ibrox rebuild and the latest messiah.
Halliday is no stranger to misery at Celtic Park.
In 2018 he was part of the 5-0 side as Celtic clinched another SPFL title under Brendan Rodgers.
Sportingly the Celtic support chanted Halliday’s name regularly through the match.
The derision of your city opponents is the ultimate insult.
MORE HUMILIATION FOR HALLIDAY
Yesterday, in the Radio Scotland press box perch Halliday looked around as thousands celebrated the latest Ibrox messiah. Danny, Danny Rohl.
Celtic Park was already rocking to Daizen Maeda’s 53rd minute goal. A well executed shot across Jack Butland after Kieran Tierney had turned James Tavernier inside out.
Four minutes later things were about to get much worse. Sitting alongside Pat Bonner and stats geek Liam McLeod.
What’s that you’ve watched Daizen Maeda’s overhead kick 2000 times from every angle? Well here’s the radio commentary to go along with it. Magnificent ??? pic.twitter.com/sIsjlvCUvK

McLeod can get hyper commentating on Peterhead against Fraserburgh in the Aberdeenshire Cup. On Sunday he had an iconic goal to describe for BBC viewers and listeners.
As his voice hit the high notes you could almost feel Halliday curl up beside him. The last place that he wanted to be was inside Celtic Park.
Surrounded on all sides by 58,000 Celtic fans with only a bank of media types as a buffer.
With that overhead kick Celtic took a step closer to winning the title.
Once again Halliday’s Tribute Act are left in third place, just like in season 2016/17 when Halliday and Jason Holt pulled the strings in midfield.
On Saturday there is the potential for Celtic to play Hearts in a title decider.
Fortunately for Halliday he should be warming the away bench at Easter Road as his Motherwell career fizzles to an end

John Greig was the Radio Scotland match summariser on ‘Albert Kidd Day’ in 1986 and his voice was so downbeat after the two goals went it that he made Andy Halliday sound like Timmy Mallet after a bucket of cocaine.
He sounded like the Reverend I.M. Jolly after receiving some particularly bad news.
Will Motherwell play him tomorrow night to go out with a bang v Celtic…
Jeez IF IF we beat Motherwell (his club) beat Hearts (his former club and fellow Prod club from the east) win the league over his favoured club (Sevco) – My goodness he will need fu**in professional therapy for sure !
