Celtic’s hopes of signing Marcelo Saracchi appear to have stalled.
The defender came in on a season long loan in August as back-up for Kieran Tierney.
Saracchi excelled in that role as Tierney built up match fitness.
In the final stages of the season the energy of the Uruguayan played a key role in Celtic’ double success.
Daizen Maeda’s goal against Herts to help clinch the SPFL title was largely down to the creativity and drive of Sarachi.
In the cold light of day a loan is a loan. Yesterday’s Hampden appearance could have been the Celtic farewell for the 28-year-old.
CELTIC IN RECRUITEMENT STALEMATE
Celtic appear now to be without a manager. With no Director of Football or Sporting Director it is difficult to work out who will currently be making football decisions.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Kelechi Iheanacho will be in similar positions but Saracchi has a contract with Boca Juniors that has another 18 months to run.
Argentinian publisher Bola VIP reports:
One of the “new” faces Boca will have once the semester ends will be that of Marcelo Saracchi . The left-back won the league title with Celtic, but his loan will expire on June 30, the day he hopes to be playing in the 2026 World Cup under Marcelo Bielsa.
The loan spell saw the Uruguayan left-back make 27 appearances for the Scottish club. Now it remains to be seen whether the club will decide to buy him outright or consider a return to Boca. Saracchi is under contract with Boca until December 2027.
According to sources, the Scottish Premiership giant is keen to acquire the player, but negotiations have not yet progressed. Therefore, the player will have to report for preseason training in Ezeiza.
Saracchi’s World Cup involvement is a further complication but highlights the urgency for Celtic to appoint a manager.
Wilfried Nancy was sacked on January 5, effectively the club should have been active in the management market for at least seven months.
The 26/27 season will start on August 1/2 with Celtic facing one Play Off tie to reach the group stage of the Champions League.
With Tierney also at the World Cup there is a real need to have a ready to play left-back signed up for the start of pre-season training.
There is an expectation of major change at Celtic over the close season but nothing yet from the club on any likely changes.
An interim manager, interim Chairman and no Head of Football Operations look like issues that need to be addressed.

Hard to believe there’s a problem. Our board is brilliant. Nicholson will issue a statement….what a shower.
It would not have been unreasonable to expect the announcement
of the permanent manager today – or tomorrow.
5 months should have been more than enough time
– even for our incompetent Board –
to identify and secure the manager.
Any delay simply delays the obvious squad rebuild required. The
We know how this goes: short of new players for the CL qualifier, again… 🙁
Add the time off for players after the World Cup and the CL Qualifier will probably be done and dusted before either player has returned to Celtic.
Celtic has signed extended contracts with James Forrest, Liam Scales and Luke McCowan although we don’t know who is actually behind this. Optimism does not enter the arena here, these guys are squad players at best. Marcelo Sarrachi is a positive-minded left back with excellent defensive skills and great positional and attacking ability. He’ll shoot if he gets the chance. KT has become so negative I just can’t see the value in him and he’s on ‘top dollar’. He’s become a lazy, backward-facing player now with very occasional flare. When he’s good he’s very, very good but……..
So, no-one knows who’s doing business at CP and, true to Lawwellism, the supporters are treated like mushrooms. In a nutshell, getting rid of Lawwell was a beginning but only that. It’s now onwards and upwards till we get rid of the inferior scum whom populate our boardroom and at least ONE shareholder. Then let the sleeping giant awake, not the plc, not even the FC, it’s our supporters and let’s see a move to a majority, supporter-owned club.
It’s the only way forward, it’s THE CELTIC WAY.
Hail! Hail!
Glad you mentioned KT, I for one are sick of the backward and sideways passing instead of pushing forward, that has become his trademark.
We should expect more for the money he gets paid.
Sevco certainly don’t Fu*k about and full credit to them for not fu**ing about…
If only we had Cavanagh then !
I can’t imagine how any Celtic fan is jealous of the h.ns The h.ns with Cavanagh have dropped one position in SpL finished table . The value of Cavanagh is stamped all over the club
Well said my friend how can we jealous of them what have they done inthe 15 years???after they came back like the zombies .
Don’t think for a minute that MON hasn’t been in talks with DD.. and an amicable decision has been agreed….And I’ll stick my neck out and say that Robbie Keane will be announced as Manager within the week.
