The final tenuous link between the 49ers and the Ibrox Tribute Act is about to be cut.
In February 2025 the Daily Record broke the world EXCLUSIVE that the (San Francisco) 49ers were bankrolling a multi billionaire takeover of the 13 year-old club.
It was of course wishful thinking.
The 49ers quickly evolved into 49ers Enterprises. That shifted on to Andrew Cavenagh, a little known businessman with no background in soccer.
The gullible and deluded bought into the myth of the 49ers even though it was Cavenagh that fronted the takeover in June 2025.
Paraag Marathe was brought in as Chairman but had to quit midway through the season when Leeds playing in Europe became a possibility.
CAVENAGH BRINGS CHAOS TO IBROX
Inside 12 months Cavenagh has taken the club into third place in the SPFL and appointed three managers.
At Executive level there has been regular changes with former St Mirren CEO Jim Gillespie currently running day to day business
Now ESPN has revealed that the tenuous link to the 49ers through Marathe is about to end.
San Francisco 49ers executive vice president of football operations Paraag Marathe is leaving the team to focus full time on Leeds United and Rangers FC as well as other sports efforts, league sources told ESPN.
The move had been in the works for a little while but is being formalized Saturday, sources said.
Marathe had spent 25 years with the 49ers. He was an influential figure inside the team’s football operation, leading strategy and salary cap operations, and played a key role in the development of Levi’s Stadium. He is a widely respected figure around the NFL, at the forefront of many financial and front office ideas.
It seems that never ending debts involved in soccer has pushed 49ers enterprises into cutting their ties.
Marathe has made little impact at Leeds as they yo-yo in and out the EPL.
The cutting edge analytics of the 49ers has thrown up Russell Martin, Danny Rohl and Derek McInnes. Plus Manny Fernandez, Joe Rodwell and Ryan Naderi.
Having promised the earth to angry bears some questions are starting to be asked of Cavenagh. His money hasn’t improved the team or any aspect of the club. Two full sets of Season Ticket money has been banked.
After drawing 1-1 at Dundee United in the SPFL opener Derek McInnes pleaded for more transfer funds.
Having sunk £40m over the course of three transfer windows it is likely that McInnes will be told to start delivering results to earn addition transfer funds.
49ers Enterprises retain a minor shareholding in the Ibrox club, that stake looks like quietly being disposed of.
After 25 years with the 49ers, Paraag Marathe is departing the organization to focus full-time on Leeds United and Rangers FC as well as other sports efforts, league sources told ESPN. The footballs going well this weekend so far…
someone better tell that gormless useful idiot spew sleveen the bears last hope !!! Chortle
Should they (Sevco Hun Hoards) not be very happy as San Francisco 49ers are allegedly ‘pesky’ Fenians !
So the investments he persuaded the 49ers to make into Sports and “soccer”‘obviously have proved a failure and the 49ers have cut their ties! But hey ho let’s spin it as a positive !! ??
The scoop who ‘broke ‘ the San Francisco 49ers tale to the Govanlandia public and wider places- the daily Record’s Inaction Jackson – was never interviewed by Sky Sports or the BBC Scottish version about his ‘world exclusive ‘ of a lifetime story …even for a simple congratulations attaboy slap on the back from either !
Come to think of it I can’t remember the last time if any that either organisation even had him on as a guest during a match for his ‘expertise ‘ and knowledge of Scottish football ? Not even as a ‘special guest ‘ on the pathetically embarrassing excuse for a football debate show – PLZ – ! That’s the regard they all have for Jackson’s average at best capacity as a credible football mouthpiece! Hhiicccuuppp… pppaarrrrppp!
The Ibrox messengers at the Record etc never went anywhere near it
Usually this guy so much as farts and they’ll tell you what he had for his tea
Harold @ 5.49pm…
How d’ya know they never went near it !
