They missed each other by a decade in their Celtic playing careers but it is fair to say that Peter Grant and Scott Brown are poles apart.
Neither are currently employed in football which creates air time, controversy and opinions resulting in drama.
Briefly Grant and Brown overlapped at Celtic through their mutual friend Tony Mowbray.
It is quite clear that they never got on.
Mowbray surprisingly at the time gave Brown the Celtic captaincy, a role he retained for a glorious decade before moving on.
When Mowbray managed Celtic there was no such thing as Open Goal or Go Radio.
In 2026 the demand for football content is all year round.
Earlier this week Brown was on the Open Goal sofa, sharing the sort of dressing room banter than is kept well away from legacy media outlets.
When Brown aired his issues with Grant it instantly created a story.
Suddenly events in the background at Celtic 16 years ago became newsworthy.

Tellingly Grant added:
I’m trying to think how long ago it was I was at Celtic as a coach? 10 years, 15 years or something like that?
I’ve not got that memory, he obviously has. It doesn’t concern me in the least.
If it was Roy Aitken, Danny McGrain, Paul McStay, the great Tommy Burns, it’d maybe concern me a little bit more.
Comparisons between different eras is great fun but ultimately pointless.
The combined medal tally of Aitken, McGrain, McStay and Burns doesn’t come close to that of Callum McGregor and James Forrest.
Grant played in the bleakest era in Celtic’s history since Jock Stein shook the club up in 1965.
A midfield of McStay, Grant and John Collins stands comparison with any other midfield combination over the last 50 years.
Collins never won a league winners medal, Grant won two over 14 seasons.
The Open Goal/ Go Radio comments have opened up an issue that only a select group of folk would have been aware on.
Now fans will be listening out for any future comments from Brown and Grant.
Both men are in and around Celtic. Grant is a regular on Celtic TV, Brown remains involved in a range of club activities

That said more the fool the pair of them for providing the producers / directors with all the ammunition they ever needed !
Scott Brown has to wind his wee neck in a bit and show a bit of class from having a go at the fans who stood behind him at the start of his mediocre start to his celtic career to idolising him then calling us vultures recently.
Peter would be the first to admit he wasn’t a Paul Mcstay or Tommy Burns but what I can say for him him was that through the 90’s if we had another 3 or 4 of him in the team with his attitude and love for celtic we wouldn’t have been as bad as what we where then. He was devoted to the cause.
I got to meet Peter a couple of times and knew his family pretty well
and everyone of them are devoted genuine celtic fans.
Scott Brown may have a problem/dislike
with Peter personally just like Peter may have with him but he kept his dignity/professionalism and personnel opinion to himself just like Scott should have.
I hate to say but after his andNeil’s go at the fans (we’re toxic) and his classless go at a fellow celtic Legend I do t want neither to return to Celtic Park. Brown was just trying to work his ticket back to parkhead sticking up for Peter and the parasites but sorry Scott IMO you’ve picked the wrong side

It’s clear to me that Legend07 never had the misfortune to see Grant play. He couldn’t pass, shot, take a penalty, tackle or even take a throw in. He scored 20 goals in a fifteen year career. Won two league medals, in short he was hopeless.
Consecutive managers dropped him, they got sacked and the next manager brought him back. I never missed a game during his Celtic career and ‘Peter the Pointer’ was despised by us who had to watch his back passing performances.
Don’t forget, he started the bad blood against Rapid Vienna by first, kicking one of them in the head when he was on the ground, then he missed a penalty!
He shat himself from Ian Ferguson on more than two occasions at Celtic Park. He was truly an awful football player. Before anyone says he is a true Celt, so I’m I and I’m sure Legend07 too, but we never disgraced the hoops for 15 years, like Peter did.
But to try and compare Grant with Brown is comparing a Lada with a Bugatti IMO.

After his debut in April 84 through to season 86/87 he was in an around the Starting XI or among the two subs.
I don’t recall him ever being out injured.
He was far from great, never the best player in the team but he was constantly picked by Billy McNeill, Liam Brady, Lou Macari and Tommy Burns.
As for the Rapid Vienna story. No reply required.
Grant is an irritating co-commentator but no need to dig that deep.
Kerryair I don’t need to justify my credentials as a fan but can assure I did see Peter play in the 90’s and can also assure you your recollections of him as a player are very much exaggerated and sound bitter.
I loved both as players but as much as Broony was the better player he was far from a “Bugatti” but that’s a different argument.

Was trying to make was Brown showed a lack of class/professionalism with his immature comments and personally thought he was a better person than that.
Why, Broonie, why? I know you’re not very bright, but why bring this up now? Attacking a fellow Celt for what? Clicks? You’ve lost a lot of respect and, probably, the trust of all your former colleagues.

Peter Grant was underpaid, undervalued and underappreciated by some at Celtic, but there is no doubting the contribution he made, he is Celtic through and through.
Peter Grant is twice the man Brown thinks himself to be. There is one medal that Granty has achieved that is evidently missing from Brown’s self-satisfied collection and that is The Badge of Honour, the most valued of all!
