UEFA investigate Ibrox fans over pitch invasion

The Ibrox club are facing further UEFA charges following their Conference League defeat from Jablonec.

Around 650 visiting fans attended the match as they watched Derek McInnes’ side lose out to the Czech side.

After winning the home leg 1-0 that scoreline was reversed to force the tie into extra-time.

With no further goals Young Findlay Curtis and James Penrice missed from 12 yards as European football was halted in August.

Jagiellonia and Jablonec are hardly from the top tier of European football.

Both clubs will be fondly remembered and celebrated by thousands of Scottish football fans.

The away fans had endured a difficult trip with a number of flags stolen by local fans.

Those flags were displayed upside down in the home sections of the stadium which was enough to provoke angry and violent reactions.

We received information from the delegate about possible unauthorized entry of Rangers fans onto the playing field and into the home team’s sector, which was related to the theft of the Rangers flag, of which Jablonec fans were suspected. Rangers threatened to enter their sector if they did not return the flag,” explained regional police spokeswoman Ivana Baláková.

Since their first European matches in 2017 the Ibrox club have been in bother with UEFA over fan actions.

REPEATED UEFA PUNISHMENTS FOR IBROX FANS

In 2019 UEFA took their first action against racist chants during a Europa League qualifier against St Joseph’s of Gibraltar.

Typically the Scottish media switched the charge from racist to the more acceptable sectarian chants which deflects from the issues.

In March 2025 UEFA imposed a two year suspended sentence on closure of the Copland Road Stand after racist banners were displayed in a match against Fenerbahce.

It is unclear if any punishment for the incidents in Jablonec will trigger the closure of the Copland Road Stand.

Naturally any punishment will apply next season if the Ibrox club make it to the qualifiers.

The SFA has never taken any action against the repeated racist actions from fans of both Ibrox clubs.

It is generally acknowledged among Ibrox fans that they have to keep a lid on their usual actions at UEFA matches.

Last season home fans displayed banners with targets imposed over images of Paddy Stewart and Kev Thelwell. No action was taken by UEFA, both executives were sacked within six months.
