Celtic have slipped down to 56th place in the UEFA co-efficient table.
Just over 19 months ago the hoops took Bayern Munich to the 177th minute before missing out on a place in the Round of 16 for the Champions League.
After successive defeats from LASK Linz and Ferencvaros Celtic are slipping down the table based on performances over the last five seasons.
Last season Celtic reached the Europa League Round of 16 Play Off where they lost 4-2 on aggregate to VFB Suttgart.
From the table below season 24/25 is the outlier in Celtic’s historical European performance. Without that they would be down around 80th place in the Co-efficient table.
With Benfica away and Celta Vigo at home the next Europa League fixtures it looks like Celtic are set to slip further down the table.
Celtic and Scotland’s plunging ranking creates medium term problems.
For two seasons the Scottish champions got direct entry into the Champions League. The runners up went into the Second Round of the non-champions route.
CELTIC AND THE ROUTE UPWARDS IN EUROPEAN FOOTBALL
Over the last two seasons the Scottish champions have gone into the Play Off Round, and lost out.
Next season the Scottish champions will go into the Second Qualifying round requiring six matches to reach the new look group phase. The SPFL runners up go into the Second Round qualifier for the Europa Conference with the real prospect of missing out on group stage football.
Right now the Co-efficient table isn’t much of a priority for Celtic. There are multiple issues needing addressed.
Climbing the table is very possible.
Playing in the Champions League for the second season running Bodo Glimt are sitting in 32nd place. Over the last two seasons they have earned 38 points, The same as Celtic have picked up in five seasons!
Last night’s victors Ferencvaros are in 36th place averaging just over 10 points per season.
