The new Ibrox skipper lasted less than 10 minutes of Saturday’s home win against Motherwell before being forced off.
Two minutes into the match play was halted due to a problem with VAR communications.
It seems that Shankland failed to properly prepare during that break, without exerting himself play was stopped with the former Hearts hero forced off.
After the 1-0 win Derek McInnes instantly compared the injury to one that Shankland suffered in January.
That kept him out of action for two months.
At the age of 31 a second hamstring injury inside nine months is an obvious concern.
Fortunately for Shankland his game has never relied on pace.
He’s gonna be some size when he ‘returns’

Rangers fear skipper Lawrence Shankland might be racing to kick another ball this year after he limped out of Saturday’s win over Motherwell with a damaged hamstring.
Record Sport understands the Ibrox medics are still awaiting the results of a scan on the injury which saw the striker hobble off the pitch after only seven minutes of the 1-0 victory.
But they are braced for bad news regardless as Shankland looks set for another extended spell on the sidelines – less than a year after needing nine weeks to recover from a similar injury under Derek McInnes at Hearts last season.
And this time the recovery period is anticipated to take even longer – with Rangers fearing the Scotland man could be ruled out of action for between 12 and 14 weeks.
Ryan Naderi replaced Shankland on Saturday, scoring the only goal of the game after a gift from the Motherwell ‘keeper.
New signing Kevin Kelsy came on for the last 20 minutes as Derek McInnes tries to find a scoring mix in front of goal.
For all his multiple problems Shankland did score the three goals against Aberdeen and Falkirk that delivered McInnes his first SPFL wins of the season.
With Youssef Chermiti undergoing ACL surgery it looks like McInnes will have to go without his two first strikers for a significant part of the season.
Bojan Miovski is also on the wage roll but has only made two brief substitute appearances this season.
Over the weekend the former Aberdeen striker sacked his agent after failing to get him a move out of Ibrox.

Poor old Shanker.
He may not come back from this.
Oh dear what a pity never mind.
Don’t like to see any players injured…
But by f*ck they’ll miss him for sure…
Think he would’ve scored against us in at least one of The Glasgow Derby’s !
Well, all I know is if I run around after a chippy I get a helluva stitch.
The amount of pies ol Shanks is heaving around in that belly am no surprised somethings gave up.
Seriously though, the most out of shape player I’ve seen in the spl since Morelos.
