Strikers fire youths into SFA Cup semi-final draw

|

James Keatings Celtic newsCeltic booked their place in the semi-final draw for the SFA Youth Cup with a comfortable 4-0 win over Stenhousemuir today.

James Keatings, Filip Twardzik, Liam Gormley and Bahrudin Atajic were on target with Celtic joined by Rangers, Livingston and Hibs in the semi-final draw.

Celtic started with the side that faced Aberdeen with Gormley brought in to partner Keatings in attack in place of the cup-tied Tony Watts.

Without hitting the heights that they showed at times in the second half against Aberdeen it was enough to see off the challenge from the Falkirk side.

“We were a wee bit down in the first half but played better after the break,” Frail said. “Without being under any pressure we didn’t reach the heights that we’re capable of but overall we’re pleased.”

Keatings had missed a couple of half chances but put Celtic in front after 40 minutes after being sent through on the Stenhousemuir goalkeeper with Filip Twardzik heading the second from a corner just before the interval.

Gormley netted with a tap in early in the second half with substitute Atajic completing the scoring after replacing Gormley.

“It was good to see the goals being spread around,” Frail added. “Bahrudin was only on for 25 minutes and could have scored four goals.

“He hit the post with one, got crowded out by the keeper one on one then got his goal. We’re pleased for him because he’s been working very hard over the last couple of weeks.

“Being out of the team has made him realise that he has to work hard to get in the side.”

In the other quarter finals Rangers won 4-2 at Ayr, Livingson won 4-2 away to Aberdeen and Hibs beat Falkirk 2-1.
