Neil Lennon confirms Cha Du-Ri injury

|

Cha Du-Ri Celtic newsNeil Lennon has confirmed that Cha Du-Ri is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

According to reports from South Korea this morning the versatile full-backs’ season is over after suffering an ankle injury.

Cha was an unused substitute during South Korea’s 0-0 draw with Turkey on Wednesday night but was missing from the Celtic squad that beat Dundee United today.

“Cha took a bad one,” Neil Lennon explained. “We are sending him to see a specialist to get another opinion. We are hoping that he will not require surgery, but even if he doesn’t require surgery he will be out for a significant period of time.

“He felt it in the first day of training when he came back. He seemed to jar his tendon. It was pretty innocuous really because he came through the training session okay and only really felt it afterwards.”

News of Cha’s injury was the only sour note on another excellent day for the Celtic boss.

After morning fears that the match might be called off due to waterlogging Celtic came storming out the blocks to go 2-0 up before half time with shots from Anthony Stokes and Mark Wilson being deflected into the net.

The win restores Celtic’s five point lead over Rangers and although the Ibrox side have two games in hand Lennon’s side go into next Sunday’s derby clash with confidence.

“I thought the front two set the tone,” Lennon added. “In the first half they were sensational. We could easily have gone in with a more comfortable lead.

“At 2-0 you are always concerned that Dundee United could get back in the game, and they did but there was a real belief about the team that they could have got another one, which they did.

“We really we should have picked Dundee United off a lot better on the counter-attack when they were throwing bodies forward.

“We got a bit of luck with the first two goals but I thought we earned it. We missed easier chances and should have been more clinical at times, but the fact we created quality chances really pleased me.

“I’m really pleased with the threat we have and we defended solidly too.”

Bummer, however since our South Korean International Right Back is injured and our Scottish International Right Back is facing suspension, I suppose we’ll just have to play our Mexican Internation Right Back.

Squad depth, dontcha just love it?
