Youth team's turn to play Aberdeen

|

Steve Frail Celtic newsStevie Frail is looking to complete a perfect week by taking three points from Aberdeen tomorrow as Celtic finally return to league business at u-19 level.

Last Sunday’s 5-1 SFA Youth Cup win over Airdrie was followed by Lewis Toshney making his first team debut on Tuesday before Toshney and James Keatings were called up into Billy Stark’s Scotland u-21 squad.

With just 8 SPL fixtures played Frail’s squad are desperate to get back into action and looking forward to the match with third placed Aberdeen.

“We’ve had a great week so far, it’s good to be back playing and having a big match to prepare for at the weekend,” Frail admitted.

“Everyone throughout the club was delighted to see Lewis and James on the bench for the first team then for Lewis to get on and make his debut.

“He’s a smashing lad and works very hard on his game. Making your first team debut is always special but to do that at a club like Celtic is fantastic.

“Seeing him get on for the first team gives everyone an extra incentive, he’s sampled the first team atmosphere and hopefully some of that will rub off on the other players.”

Frail’s squad showed no signs of rustiness against Airdrie and were quickly back into the way of things.

All five goals were scored by different players with Paul George on target in midweek for the u-17 side in their 4-0 win over Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup.

Aberdeen have won 7 of the 11 SPL matches this season with Frail anticipating a tough match tomorrow.

He added: “Aberdeen are always a tough team and bring through a lot of good players.

“A few of them got some first team experience under Mark McGhee but are now back playing with their u-19’s.

“We’ve had a good week’s work on the back on the Airdrie match, there are no injuries to report and everyone is looking forward to the match.”

The match will be played at Balgownie with a 1.30pm kick off.
