Jackson Irvine Celtic newsJackson Irvine made a scoring debut for Scotland yesterday but was unable to prevent Billy Stark’s side from losing 2-1 to Slovenia.

The Melbourne born midfielder was one of four Celtic players in the Scotland side and opened the scoring in the 23rd minute.

Erik Janza levelled the scores for the home side seven minutes after the restart with Matej Pucko scoring the winner midway through the half.

Scotland play Wales tomorrow before completing the qualifying campaign against Belgium who beat the Welsh 3-0 yesterday.

The other Celts in the Scotland side were Marcus Fraser, Callum McGregor and Tony Watt.

Down south loan defender Jos Hooiveld continued the good start to his Southampton loan deal by netting in their 2-1 Carling Cup win over Preston whilst former Celt Craig Bellamy scored in Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Brighton.
